some encouraging economic news this morning. commerce department says that retail sales in october rose a much stronger than expected .4% occurring while the federal government was partially shut down. also came after a flat reading in september was the strongest gain in four months. and when you strip out gas prices, which fell by quite a bit, the core rate was up by a .5%. those falling gas prices also pushing consumers side inflation lower. the labor department's consumer price index out and it fell by 1/10 of a percent in october. gas prices were down by 2.9%. biggest decline since april. the core rate up a very modest 1/10 of a percent. that continues to give the federal reserve cover as it keeps its benchmark interest rate at its current low. stock market off to a decent start this morning. the dow going to try for 16,000 once again. it pushed above that level the past two days unable to hold on though. let's see how the numbers are doing now. the dow was positive but now it's down by about 10 points. nasdaq meanwhile is u
