san bruno police chief ed barberini described the police presence and response here this afternoon. here's what he had to say. >> the response was very timely. it was immediate. i have no doubt, and i'll let the fire chief address it on both the police and the fire side, that it probably contributed to saving lives and successful resolution from a public safety perspective as far as the response goes. but we're still right in the middle of it. and that response continues where the search is being conducted at both the mall, which is a large building, as you can imagine, and the surrounding parking lots is being conducted in teams of police officers that are combined -- police officers all over the county here. here very appreciative of that. but everything's working like it's supposed to work. >> the fire chief says that the city just recently had active shooter training. they believe that absolutely made a difference here this afternoon. investigators are with the victims at the hospital. right now of course if they're able to speak they'll be looking to get any sort of statements

we are listening to that -- we're monitoring that news conference from chief ed barberini again going through many of the same things that we've been telling you for the last two hours or hour and a half when we've been on the air with you. again, as we have confirmed from san francisco general, two people shot. this is the same what we heard from some of the people inside the mall that they had seen two victims being carried out. we showed you some of that video of one of those victims being carried out. they believe two separate shooters. we know that the two victims as we heard from sf general that they are teenagers. male teenagers. we've seen someone be arrested there on the it doesn't sound a like that person that may have been on the ground may have been connected to this in any way, but we don't know at this point. >> the police chief of san bruno had started his news conference. almost the exact same moment that that person was taken down. so he could not have known about that at the moment he started his news conference. you would put one and one together and you think you'd

, what i can tell you right now here is we just got that update outside of the mall, and chief ed barberini said there is currently no threat to the public at the mall. however, they do not have a handle on where these suspects are. they don't think they're here. they think they took off. they described them as two young black men who are armed. and there is a b.a.r.t. station right next to this mall, so perhaps they got on b.a.r.t. as of now, he couldn't give us any confirmed information about that, but i'll run through what he told us. just about 3:56, they got the reports of shots fired at the mall. two people were shot. he says they were shot on the lower part of their body. that they are stable. they were taken to sf general trauma centre. he says they don't think this was a random shooting but could not say if there was a relationship between the victims of the shooting, the two victims and the two suspects. he did say those two shooters were shooting at each other. we don't know if those shooters were together or if there was some sort of fight leading up to the shooting. i asked him
