cnn's senior national correspondent, ed lavandera is there. ed, what is the latest from the ground? >> well, john, investigators here in the houston area, which involve the harris county sheriff's department as well as obviously, fbi investigators who have been here in this neighborhood on the northern side of houston, where, as you can see behind me, the police lights and authorities have had this area cordoned off since yesterday afternoon. >> we understand it wasn't until late last night that fbi investigators got the sign off on the search warrants to go inside the home of the suspect in this new orleans attack is believed to have his last known address. is believed to be just beyond those police lights you see behind me. and that's why investigators have been here. they've been very tight lipped as to exactly what they've been doing and what they have found at this point. but it wasn't until late last night, as i mentioned, that we understand that they began the search process of the residence here. fbi say that this search is connected to that investigation in new orleans. but

. >> our senior national correspondent, ed lavandera, is watching the snowfall in houston, which got its first ever blizzard warning, and also blizzard warning issued for portions of coastal texas. ed, how are you holding up there? >> well, for a region of the country that is more used to getting flooding and hurricane warnings and that sort of thing, this is a very different change of pace. >> much, much of the heavy snow that we have seen falling overnight and into the morning hours has kind of dissipated, and that is left behind. this mess on the roadways. now, the good news is, is that it's rather slushy at this point. so a lot of people are kind of out and about, uh, at least enjoying the snow around the city here. but the problem is, is that freezing temperatures are expected to hit overnight as well. so all of this slush that you see on the roadways is probably going to turn to ice in many places around southeast texas. and that is why officials here are really urging people to continue staying off the roadways and to plan to be off the roadways at least through tomorrow. tempe

let's get right to cnn's senior national correspondent, ed lavandera, who is there with the latest on these searches. good morning. ed. >> good morning. john. well, fbi investigators and other authorities have been here on the northern side of houston, houston, searching a property just beyond those police cars that you see behind me at this intersection. we just heard moments ago from the fbi office here in houston saying that about ten minutes ago, they wrapped up the search of the property that they have been doing here since yesterday afternoon. it wasn't until late last night that they got the court order to be able to to go inside the the premises. so overnight, investigators here in houston have been searching the home believed to be connected to the suspect in the new orleans attack. so they have spent here hours and hours going through this. we have no information beyond that as to exactly what has been found here. the fbi statement this morning does say that there is no threat to the residents and the neighbors who live around the property, that they have been searching, but

cnn's ed lavandera has more. he joins us from el paso, texas. so what more are you learning about this military action at the border well, four of these military planes have been sent to two in san diego, two in el paso. >> we know one of those flights was took a group of about 75 to 80 guatemalan citizens who had recently crossed the border here in the el paso area and were repatriated back to guatemala earlier today. but as you point out, there's important context here. over the last few days, the trump administration has been touting the numbers of people that have been deported since they took office this week. it's important to point out that so far, those numbers are not much different than what we've seen in recent months. and in the last year or so, immigrant advocates have been saying that so far, not much has changed. in those flights. we should also point out, for context that even though its new military flights or aircraft are being used to carry out these deportations, there have been deportation flights that have gone on for years

cnn's ed lavandera is in houston, and elisa raffa is tracking this storm for us. , i'm going to start with you because you're in such a rare situation, the first ever blizzard warning is in effect for south texas. and i have never seen houston look like this before. >> yeah. in fact, the last time was during that winter freeze that we had several years ago here in texas that shut the whole state down. but it is still nonetheless rare, especially when you're talking about blizzard condition warnings that are going out in some places along the gulf coast in a region of the united states that is used to seeing these types of weather, event warnings have to do with hurricanes. this is what the scene looks like in many parts of houston. this weather system moving from the southeast texas area along the u.s. southern coast. a lot of snow fall here, expecting maybe 2 to 5in in some places. but it's coming down rather nicely. and just to give you a sense of just how areas like this are not prepared for this, the state of texas is having to send snow plows into the area. th

ed lavandera is in houston with more on the suspect's ties to the state. what are you learning, ed? >> hi, pamela. well, for several hours this afternoon, a number of law enforcement authorities have been here in this far north houston neighborhood that has been cordoned off. >> and according to local officials and fbi officials, they have been searching a home that is address is connected to the suspect that carried out the terror attack in new orleans. fbi officials also confirming that this search is related to that investigation. and as you mentioned, we are learning more about this, this suspect, who in several various sources that we've been able to comb through throughout the day. the suspect had been battling some financial troubles, worked in real estate and information technologies, systems and studied that as well. but in court documents, we've been able to reveal he talked about the financial struggles that he had been going through in recent years, from 2019 to 2023. he had a real estate license here in texas. but in court documents connected to a, he was sued by the mo
