kicking things off we have a fireside chat with the angels and legendary investor ron conway, mayor ed lee, san francisco mayor, and the conversation will be moderated by our own michael aaroningtonv1 . >> it's early. you were here last year, mr. mayor. >> yes, i was. >> is it your mayorship or mr. mayor? >> ed is fine. >> mr. mayorship, before we start i want to note it's 9-11. it's been eleven years and i know that you were up early this morning. can you tell us a little bit how you sort of marked the day. >> yes, i was and again i thank tech crunch for recognizing a moment of silence. i joined some 30 cadets at our fire station training center, which chief hayes white and commissioners and we read off all of the names, 375 of them, the names of the victims of 9-11. and we have done that for the purpose to recall them, what they did and then i had an opportunity to recognize the cadets and all the officers and thank them and tell them we're very appreciative of them as first-responders in the city. >> i was in new york when it happened and it's always odd for me to think back to that tim

we're going to hand that to ed lee's team at tech sf. they will create curriculum to specifically train for those entry-level jobs that our tech companies. >> it's amazing. do you have -- i have a joke in a minute, but are other mayors coming to you and asking how do i help my own city? >> yes, i am a member of the u.s. conference of mayors. >> that sounds exciting [ laughter ]pt >> it's all the mayors from new york, to boston to los angeles and we all get together twice a year and we're exchanging stories of how we're trying to make our cities successful. >> do you all talk at once? [ laughter ] >> we usually do. we usually do. but this year, they listened to what san francisco was all about. and so at our advice, they created a task force on technology and innovation from the rest of the mayors and they made me the chair. so i get to chair that and i get to introduce all of the technology/innovation that we're doing in san francisco, offering samples to the rest of the cities across the country and have them interact with us. we're ont

it is such an honor to work with the honorable mayor ed lee. we have been given the initiative not only to get jobs, but also to work hard for the service. mayor lee has been nothing but a tremendous supporter of the department of public health. with the last budget, the department came out with no cuts in the budget. i was not well thought of on the campaign trail because i called ed lee in organized criminal at thatme. mayor lee now faces charges before the state bar for violations of the state bar act. chapter 1, royals 1-100 permit it the use of public funds for perjury or corruption. -- prohibit use of public funds for perjury or corruption. mayor lee's and election fraud, collusion, graft, fraud, and ms. prison of felony, these are criminal acts. the mayor's use of this whole ethics process is transparent. the ethics commission has wrongfully postponed sunshine case number 11-048, where four supervisors now face criminal charges for their acts that have empowered civil-rights violations and numerous violations. [tone] this has damaged many people. we must hold the mayor accountable. it is time for the money machine in san francisco to be held to account. i have call on you to organize around one issue, and that is the recall machine. throw all the bums out. this is the first time since june 14th that we had public comment and the last person to make a habit -- public comment is now evicted. h

[applause] >> not ed lee. but i play him from time to time. the mayor wanted me to appear today and he wanted me to welcome all of you to discuss these very important issues. obviously, with the amount of influence and impact that nightlife has on san francisco, that is obviously very important to the city, and to the mayor directly. it is so closely tied to what makes san francisco such a beautiful city, and so closely site -- tied to what makes san francisco -- what makes people want to come to san francisco and live in this city. it is important to what we do and many of the businesses that exist here on an ongoing basis. we have 16 million visitors a year. that is in no small part due to the activities associated with the night life and this city. that is not lost on all of us. one of the things that i think it's important to the mayor and myself as i sit here today, and i know that you guys are going to be focusing on, i looked out and i see so many pieces of the city family here engaged in this conversation. i think it is really a measur
