ed lee is first class, no doubt about it. his perception, his understanding, his work ethics, what he does for this city is unbelievable. and he will continue to do that. we know that. there's no doubt about it. the season of gifts is so critical because what we do is reach people that are unreachable many times. people that are in great need and we would be utterly surprised at how many folks we have in just our city that, that are hard to reach. but to get to them and to let them know that we care and that san francisco is the city that really cares is something that is very colt cal. -- critical. so, we feel very strong little that we are not only serving one of the most important directions in regards to reaching people, but also meeting the needs of people. none of us is immune from disaster. all of us could go through disaster that would hurt even those of us who have. so, we're trying to put the haves and the have nots together so that in what we do, the gift of love and the gift of courage and the gift of understandin

what if it had just been elect ed lee for mayor? would that fall within this definition? >> i would say it would. because if you have identified ed, if ed is not a candidate. >> right. >> and someone makes an effort, expenditure or other method to support that person when they are not a candidate, it should -- i think the average layman would say that is an inducement to run. >> why are we setting ourselves up for that ambiguity? why do we need to define "support?" >> if i may, i don't know that we necessarily need to define "support," but the definition of the draft committee really is a committee that spends or raises funds of $1,000 or more. so if it is just somebody who urges someone to run without raising funds, no money is involved. >> right. >> that would not be a committee. >> right. agreed. but what if they are not "encouraging them to run?" i mean we're still trying to capture anyone who is spending money to support the election of someone who is not a declared candidate, regardless of whether they are saying hey, mr. thompson, we really want you to declares a ca

i was thinking about the introduction of mayor ed lee lastity and we'll taking the time to think about ed as mayor and ed as leader. i've been lucky to know every single mayor in san francisco since my birth and mayor lee is quickly taking his place among the very best. i've seen ed grow into the mayor's role with great ease and aplomb and there's no surprise there. mayor lee is focusing on young people and guiding a rebust economic rebirth in san francisco. his interest in young people is quite genuine and he meets regularly with middle school principals, focusing on critical years for kids to stay engage the in school. recognizing that mayors can have tremendous impact in their communities, he co-sponsored the legislation to eradicate bullying from schools at the 2012 con conference of mayors. he is here today to address us on the vexing issue of bullying. it is my pleasure to introduce the mayor of san francisco, ed lee. . >> thank you, ann, for that wonderful introduction and i don't know where you got the ease of coming to the mayor's ofrs, there was no ease on that. ladies and ge

applause) >> hi, on behalf of good will industry, i would like to -- i'm very honored to thank mayor ed lee and supervisor carmen chu for setting aside $400,000 to help local businesses to become a-d-a compliant. we filed with supervisor chu's office in the past to make sure we get the word out, make sure they know how to do the a-d-a -- more update for the a-d-a. and a lot of our businesses, most of our neighbors in this community are small businesses, mom and pop stores and who don't have a lot of cash flow every month. so, we are very grateful for the mayor and supervisor's office for giving us the support. as you know, lawsuits can mean for a business that they have to close down if they don't have the cash to defend themselves hiring a lawyer. so, this past year alone, a lot of the small businesses actually have to move out of the city because of people doing drive-by lawsuits. here at the good will industry we are very grateful and one of our mission is to help people to create job opportunities for people who come here and work. so, one of the things that we care for is creating jobs

[applause] >> not ed lee. but i play him from time to time. the mayor wanted me to appear today and he wanted me to welcome all of you to discuss these very important issues. obviously, with the amount of influence and impact that nightlife has on san francisco, that is obviously very important to the city, and to the mayor directly. it is so closely tied to what makes san francisco such a beautiful city, and so closely site -- tied to what makes san francisco -- what makes people want to come to san francisco and live in this city. it is important to what we do and many of the businesses that exist here on an ongoing basis. we have 16 million visitors a year. that is in no small part due to the activities associated with the night life and this city. that is not lost on all of us. one of the things that i think it's important to the mayor and myself as i sit here today, and i know that you guys are going to be focusing on, i looked out and i see so many pieces of the city family here engaged in this conversation. i think it is really a measur
