ed o'keefe is in new hampshire where the next contest is a week away. how are the candidates responding to these latest results? >> reporter: good morning, gayle. the iowa caucus and the results usually a boost for the winner as they come into the new hampshire primary, which is on tuesday. so while we don't have all the data to officially declare a winner, it hasn't stopped some of the campaigns from spinning the partial results in their favor. >> thank you, new hampshire. >> reporter: former mayor pete buttigieg celebrated the partial release of the caucus results. >> i'm here humbled by good news that's come over the airwaves today, mindful that we are -- yeah, we can celebrate that for a second. >> reporter: as did senator bernie sanders. >> in iowa, we received more votes on the first and second round than any other candidate. >> reporter: while buttigieg has a narrow lead over sanders in the iowa delegate count, sanders is ahead in the popular vote. a new figure being released by the state party for the first time. >> for some reason in iowa, they

ed o'keefe is covering the race there. ed, good to see you.can we expect in the next few days? the clock is ticking. >> reporter: it sure is, gayle. good morning. candidates are desperate to cover as much ground as possible in south carolina and in the 14 states voting next week when nearly 1400 delegates are up for grabs. >> got to bring people together. we share a common humanity. >> front-runner, bernie sanders, campaigned in the super tuesday state of north carolina. in the coming days, candidates are fanning out across the country with events from boston to raleigh, nashville, little rock, selma and san diego. the hope is to pick up as many of the more than 1300 delegates up for grabs that day as they can. that's more than a third of what's needed to win the democratic nomination. the super-sized primary day is set to stretch the campaign thin. only sanders, former new york mayor michael bloomberg have the resources to compete in all 14 states. bloomberg is spending at least $153 million running tv ads back books like this one. >> health

ed o'keefe is covering the upcoming new hampshire primary. ed, is the recount likely to happen? >> reporter: well, good morning, anthony. recount would have to be requested by one of the candidates by this afternoon and as of now we have no indication that's coming especially from the two candidates who are winning. pete buttigieg found out he prevailed by just a tenth of a percentage point in the delegate count. >> fantastic news. >> reporter: former mayor pete buttigieg and senator bernie sanders are claiming victory in the iowa caucuses. >> we did very well. we won in iowa. >> reporter: even saying so before the iowa democratic party released the final results late thursday. >> that argument is about electability and ability to win, we just had the first election of the 2020 process. >> what i want to do today, three days late, is to thank the people of iowa. >> why not let iowa finish counting first before declaring victory. >> given the fact we waited three days and now talk of another recount, we might want the decisions of the iowa caucus before the november election. >>
