eddie rickrickenbacher who beca the american ace of aces flew into combat first in a newport 28. our first generation of great aces began with this kind of airplane. you are looking here at the b-29, enola gay, named after the pilot's mother. the pilot who flew this airplane to hiroshima, japan, on august 6, 1945 and dropped the world's first atomic bomb on an enemy target. again, he named the airplane after his mother, enola gay. it is certainly the most emotionally laden artifact, i think it's safe to say, in the entire collection of the national air and space museum. however you come down on the issues that it represents, astomastom atomic warfare and that kind of thing. it sort of is an icon that wraps all of those issues up in itself. so people do have interesting reactions to this airplane on all kinds of sides of the issue. it is a b-29 that was built not by the boeing company, which designed the b-29. enola gay was built at the martin plant near omaha, nebraska. and they picked out a string of b-29s on the line at that plant and designated them as silver plate airplanes. the silver plate airplanes were the ones that were going to be slightly modified to carry

congresswoman eddie bernice johnson, and karen bass of california, secretary of the congressional black caucus. congresswoman, thank you for both being hereou and i were talking earlier today, and you heard him say, how do we make sure this doesn't happen again. is there an answer to that? >> there are probably a number of answers. it's whether or not we can get to those answers. i think that if we could get some of these assault weapons off the street, i think we could get to the answer. we've been trying to get to that answer for a while, though. reauthorization of the assault weapon ban would be helpful. i think another thing that we need to understand is that though this happened in dallas, and we are in grief, this is a national problem. and we need to get assault weapons off the street wherever they are. we've had 491 murders of police in this country this year, as of june 30th. it is time for us to look at this seriously. and forget about the nra. i mean, it seems to me that we are tied in knots, because the national rifle association wants everyone to have a gun, i guess. and there's nothing wrong with people having guns. i believ

. >>> back here at home, san jose police releasing more details about that police shooting of the armed suicidal man in east san jose. eddie garcia says that anthony nunez, relatives called police saying he was suicidal with a gun. when officers arrived they learned that nunez had shot himself in the head, but was still alert walking in and out of that home carrying a gun. they tried for 14 minutes to get him to drop the weapon. at some point he pointed the guns at officers and that is when two officers fired at least one round each. >> the officer did not want to force a confrontation and why in these instances time is on our side. they wanted to slow it down, but unfortunately it wasn't the result we all wanted. >> reporter: those two officers are both veterans on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. this is the fourth officer- involved shooting in san jose so far this year and the second one that has been deadly. >>> after an exhaustive investigation, the fbi director said that former secretary of state hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail server to send and receive highly sensitive government e-mails

here in philadelphia. to talk more about the convention, hillary clinton, donald trump, and president obama's legacy, we're joined by two guests. eddielaude is chair of the department of african-american studies at princeton university. "howost recent book is race still enslaves the american soul." he recently had a article with the headline, "my democratic problem with voting for hillary clinton. also, georgetown university professor, michael eric dyson, who authored many books, including "the black presidency: barack obama and the politics of race in america." he wrote an article titled "yes she can: why hillary clinton will do more for black people than obama." professor dyson, on this issue of why hillary clinton, you say, will do more for african-americans than president obama. >> making the argument in the , notxt of a host of things the least of which that president obama, for a variety of reasons, has been disinclined to deal with racism, has been hesitant about engaging race. i think that hillary clinton come a for many of those reasons, will be more forthcoming. she spoke very intentionally about implicit bias. she asked wh

eddie glaud is the chairman at princeton university and also the author of "democracy in black." thanks to both of you for being hereversation. really appreciate it. jonathan, i want to start with you and get your rereaction to hillary clinton's speech. you heard her take responsibility for the divisiveness. did she take enough responsibility and what do you think she accomplished today. >> i think this is a continuation of her when it comes to race, a continuation of what she did back in january when she spoke in harlem when she talked about race and talked about the responsibility in terms of healing the racial divide doesn't rest on the shoulders of african-americans, but white americans, all americans, quite frankly, have to bare some responsibility and in the speech today particularly in the clip that you played, she's taking responsibility when she says her contribution to that rhetoric is the souper predator comment she made during the time of the crime bill that a lot of african-americans are upset by and pushed her to apologize for. so she is now doing what e she says white americans as a whole need to do i

eddie, professor of religion and african-american studies at princeton. thank you for joining us again on another tough day for the country. president obama called you from your office and said i am herepe, what should i do to help? what would you ask him to do? >> i would ask him to speak to the entire country. to talk about the enduring legacy of hatred and bigotry and how it manifested itself in the lives of not only african-americans but also in reactions, violent reactions we have recently saw in dallas. what i found so strange about was he wasonference not speaking to black people. we know all the stats he cited. let me be very clear, he said there were some americans that feel they are mistreated. we don't feel that we are mistreated, it is evidentiary. we know we are mistreated. he seemed like he was trying to convince white america to take seriously something. so, i want to say that first. the second thing of what to say is my heart goes out to the families of those police officers who were killed. and, i hope as a nation we can find the grace and dignity to not only extend our sympathies to them but to begin to think about the way we live that is no longer sustainable. that
