eden manor is now under new management.before the transition.she and six other staffers were left to care for patients for about 16 hours a day. seven days a week for more than a month.without pay.and without enough supplies. the state is trying to bar the owners of valley manor from operating or working in a california residential care facility again. their lawyer is disputing the claims that residents were not properly cared for. keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill in california is proving more difficult than it should be. a recent audit found that a large number of courts across the state aren't reporting the mentally ill to state justice officials. in fact, the courts collectively failed to report at least 23-hundred mental health determinations over a three- year period. the audit also found some courts reported incomplete information and, in some cases, took up to seven days to send that information to the justice department. auditors say state law should be changed to require reporting within 24 hours.
