i didn't think it was the right person to do it but i did interview a wonderful woman named carol edison the head of the african american studies department at emory university. i hope you will read about her in the book because i was so struck by her and our conversation and i met her actually by chance at an evening events and i liked her so much we had such a fabulous conversation we agreed to talk the next day and i quickly bought one of her books and read it as much of it is i could we set down the next day and i said, i love your book is amazing. i also noticed you had 15 footnotes in the first two pages. she said, i'm a black woman, and not allowed to make any mistakes. nobody believes what i say anyway so everything i say has to be completely backed up and completely supported. she tells many more stories like that but i was very struck with that. being a white woman that wouldn't have occurred to me. i tried to take readers along with me as i make what may be a very nacve discovery maybe i should've known all of that before but hearing it from her and seeing some specifics reall
