since i came on board the new republic we doubled the size of the editorial staff.ave significantly invested in our digital products and in the print magazine. and everything from you know the feel of the paper stock to the size of the magazine. owe4h all of these things this has been a process of investing in the values of the place so they come to greater fruition. now early on we did not see eye to eye. his belief that the same kind of values that he talks about in that essay is humanist ideals which is incredibly important that we support must move into the 21 if century. if we're honest with our serves and we walk down the middle of a train or plane, we think about how we read today we spent an enormous time on enormous amount of i'm on our moral devices, on our tablets and on our computers. and the kind of journalism we do have to adapt to those formats. that doesn't mean we don't do long form. doesn't mean we stop doing criticism. we continue to do those things. in addition to that we also have to think creatively about audio. interactive graphics, time lines

i have not seen the editorial. i have not seen it either. as far as the expense of free muni people may remember free muni for youths we had a hard time getting the mta to fund it and there ended up being a private do nation made so there hasn't been city money going into that so that doesn't make any sense for them to claim that that is affecting revenue. and people for disabilities is estimated to cost 4 to 6 million which is a very small drop in the bucket. sunday parking is a larger issue, but i think for people to claim that allowing poor people in our city to be able to get around is causing problems isn't at all true. we at senior and disability action and a lot of other folk who is have been working on free muni feel very strongly that self reporting is the best way to go. the big reason is we see in countless city and state programs that verification is often very difficult for people especially when talking about poor people people dealing with age and disability people who may not speak english. there are a lot of examples where i

so it seemed only natural that i would pursue a career in editorial cartooning. i chose this career path in the early 1970s during the heyday of the art form. like most i tried to emulate the artists who dominated the profession of the time. unlike many of my contemporaries i just wasn't talented enough to do it. and so i had to fashion a drawing style that was more suited to my modest ability as an artist. ..ummm, my approach to cartooning was also shaped by my weaknesses than by my strengths. temperature, for example i've never considered myself to be a good caricature. you might think it would discourage someone from pursuing a career in a profession virtually driven by caricature. i wasn't going to let a little thing like not being able to capture'-- someone's likeness to keep me down. eliminating them altogether seems like a good solution. with time, i found ways to criticize public officials without depicting them at all.
