the nevada department of eduction just got a big chunk of change for funding. the u-s department of the state nearly three and a half million dollars in school improvement grants. the money will help increase student achievement in underperforming schools. the nevada d-o-e will distribute the funds to qualifying districts-- to help increase the total percent of student's proficiency in math and reading. and to improve graduation rates. the state will use the funds for new hires and provide more tools for teachers. it's getting darker a lot earlier now-- and that means it's harder for drivers to see pedestrians. police are teaming up with c-c-s-d's safe routes to school they are holding a pedestrian satey event called do the bright thing today at west prep academy. the event highlights the importance of making sure you can be seen... now that daylight is shorter. safe routes to school is hanging new banners reminding drivers that u-turns are illegal in active school zones. it's also illegal to pass... or overtake another car... in an active school zone. now fox5
