kennedy alive. he gave his quick sign, went into the kitchen, where bill edwards was in when he was shot. incredible photograph. one of my colleagues was with him also. i heard something happened. i ran outside and saw ethel in the back of the ambulance. took this photo through ambulance door. it was shocking what happened. senator, butthe this picture made me feel bad. i was 21 when i did it. was the idea of intruding on somebody's grief. that's not something i like to do or anybody does, but i did it. many years later, i asked -- i told her how bad i felt, she said not to worry, i was doing my job. she understood. those people lived in the public life forever. day, theafter this family invited me to be at the gravesite to celebrate the life of robert kennedy on the day of his death. this is the picture i took of ethel. being a photographer is about getting through the veneer of people's souls. she had lived through so much. i caught this one moment. the sadness is evident. and other watch this american history programs on our website, where all of our video is archived. that is c-span.o
