let's turn now to nbc's morgan chesky on the ground in edwardsville, illinois, that's where that amazon warehouse collapsed leaving at least two dead. morgan, what more can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah, alicia, good evening. just within the last few minutes we've received some updated numbers from officials here in edwardsville just north of st. louis. six people died inside that amazon warehouse that was partially collapsed when that tornado roared through this area around 8:40 last night. the initial number was two. it's now risen to four. i want to be clear. officials have said that recovery efforts are ongoing at this time, but they're not saying much else aside from the fact that this is still an active search here. we do know that at the time this tornado struck, they were able to get 45 people outside of that massive warehouse through the debris and to safety, and considering the damage that we witnessed when we arrived today, it is hard to believe. alicia, this was a building as big as a football field that suffered a near direct hit from this tornado causing a wall to cave in

i am jenna ray is cbs news, edwardsville, illinois. >>> san francisco police are looking for the themes behind a brazen purse snatching outside balboa cafe on fillmore. take a look at how quickly it all went down. a black car drives close to a parkland, a man gets out, which is over the barrier and snatched a woman's purse. the crime doesn't stop there. victim telling police her parked car was also stolen. people in the area say this is the first time they are hearing of this kind of drive-through purse snatching. >> you wouldn't think with all these people out here something like that would be possible. >> they pulled up close to the park. her friend did tell me it came close to hitting the park. two of her friends came over, she was kind of hysterical. she had her belongings taken, her car taken and then, i mean, you have to think about her safety as well. if they still regard, the could probably go to her house. >> workers in the marina say customers should keep their belongings close, especially outdoor dining areas. the marina has a heavy police presence after 10:00 p.m. americans.

now to edwardsville, illinois. th that is the sign of the partially collapsed amazon warehouse. paulo sandoval is there. six people died in that collapse. what else did he say? >> reporter: it was disheartening for the family members who were waiting to hear word. it was six people who had lost their lives when what is believed to be an ef-3 tornado ripped through this part of western illinois. you can see a large void in what used to be an enclosed warehouse where, really, potentially dozens of employees showed up to work last night to carry out their shift but instead that severe weather interrupting things last night and again, we now know six people confirmed dead and then what's adding to the heartbreak is also more news we heard tonight from authorities this is now transitioned from a search and rescue to a search and recovery mission. one local official saying there is no hope of finding anybody alive or at least anybody being pulled from that rubble anymore. at this point, the operations here have been called off for the day. and expected to resume again tomorrow night a

well, here in edwardsville we've seen damaged portions of this facility slowly taken down. that ef-3 tornado caused six deaths and still has one person in the hospital. now if you take a look behind me , it might look like a complete building, but to the back of this building is just piles of rubble, and that, because of that collapse, osha has been here since saturday. they've had compliance officers here after they opened an investigation into the building collapse after that tornado came through, they will have six months to investigate issue any citations, and propose monetary penalties if they find violations of workplace safety or health regulations. meanwhile, first responders went from search and rescue to recovery mode. that's now over. today amazon regained control of this site. they are now going through with engineers to do structural analysis and they are beginning to takeaway any debris that remains, but the big impact remains with the families who lost loved ones and the employee s that were inside during that tornado. >> our focus really continues to be on t
