[ applause ] >>mayor edwin m. lee: okay, naomi, that tells me a lot. everybody, thank you. thanks for coming. this is a wonderful time we are here at city hall and of course i was joking when i wished mayor brown a happy 100th birthday. first of all i do want to say officially welcome to the people's palace. this is of course a time when we get a chance to reflect not just the brick and mortar although i must say every time i have a chance to look up and look around i have to marvel at a building that moves in base isolate ors and has become a beautiful beautiful building and everybody i have talked with and stepped foot whether it's the elevators or walking up or the rotunda, their eyes are always looking everywhere and marvelling at this historic building. as i look around today, most of the people are the ones who occupy and come through and make this building come alive. that's you and the thousands that come through this building everyday. i want to say from a very start thank you to mayor brown and charlotte and when we first began talking about

discuss over all what our office has been doing around intervention efforts i'm the director for mayor edwin lee and my role is to oversee the response team when there's such an incident incident such as this one for anyone that is impacted from a homicide or any aggravated assault or a shooting so a little bit of background of the incident -- we wanted to just briefly describe that this incident did occur last summer on june 27th and it occurred at 2:00 p.m. and unfortunately many individuals were impacted there was a victim that was targeted playing dodge ball with his ten-year old son and unfortunately he was targeted a 32-year-old male father suffered multiple gunshots and unfortunately passed away once he was transported to sf general hospital. this agency does violence prevention work and unfortunately this young man was trying to transition from a former lifestyle and street violence and his past did haunt him and he was targeted in front of a playground where there was the witnessing of many children there that day and it was a horrific tragedy and our office at no moment denies this was

nations you don't see that there's a disconnect we're as a society have a responsibility as mayor edwin lee i know that homelessness is a subject for politicians it is not being a politician but doing what's right and anything the port can do any citizen in san francisco join the partnering and keypads you know i'm sure there's a lot of homelessness people have brains people in prison they got a miss pass in life sometime you you know we don't know how bless we happen to what time on the wrong side and send you down the wrong path thank you for coming and i'm glad to my fellow commissioners saw this i see it evidence and i feel and i know that those people out there some of them have lost hope when you lose hope you've lost everything i'm hoping to give that hope back to them san francisco is a city it's progressive with a social conscious and a backbone that will take it head on and deal with that you i want to say commissioner adams there's a reason i want to be director of hope the i am going is in our mind a flurry like to say i'm not running an office but a campaign about changing peop
