we're doing something for the e eevangelicals, we're going to do something to help the evangelicals,istians, give them their voice back. what's happening with the platform is very good. do i agree with everything? nobody ever has. >> reporter: what's the story you're going to tell at the convention. >> law and order story. a lot of stories at the convention. >> reporter: and in the wake of the latest attacks in france, one of trump's story, about the need to confront terror. >> you have to knock isis out. we have an obligation to the world to knock them out. >> reporter: finally, one thing i had to know. make america great, again. the slogan that -- >> again. >> reporter: people identify with. i wonder when in your mind was america great? >> you know, at the turn of the century, if you look we did with the great factories and the great -- with the steel and with all of what was happening, that was an amazing time. now, every time has weaknesses. because it wasn't inclusionary. it was you know, lots of different things. i thought ronald reagan, i disagreed with him on trade very much,

on a lot of issues, they don't know each other very well, one is deeply religious, christian, eevangelical party, the other is donald trump. none at all of the above. how is this going to work? >> well my friend mike pence will handle it well. frankly, he is a person, as you point out, great faith, he's a person with great experience too. 12 years in the united states congress, he rose to leadership. obviously he's been a successful governor so he has executive leadership as well. and frankly for a lot of republicans, i think he answers a lot of questions about trump. i was pleased with mr. trump's final three selections, all people i knew, thought highly of, but mike, if this is going to be a battleground region and we think it is he'll tell mr. trump what he thinks, he's running for vice president, not vice president, and you can't be in the constant debate with the nominee. >> well, so that point, donald trump a word count more than 2,000 words last night, and mike pence, only about 900, it was clearly inequity there. >> you know, i think that's normal. i don't remember george h.w. bush
