one stretch of road that got hit particularly hard was the eisenhower expressway in forest park. there is a lot of standing water both at desplaines avenue, and at 25-th avenue. and cars and trucks are having to slow to a crawl, to get through. part of an apartment building was evacuated in skokie, after lightning apparently struck the chimney. firefighters were called after someone smelled smoke in the building on kenton, near oakton. they arrived to find the chimney was heavily damaged. bricks crashed through a skylight, and then through some stairs in a rear stairwell. officials asked residents on the top floors of the apartment building to leave, until an inspector can determine if it is safe to stay there. our fifth book friends are sending us pictures. if in good to the wgn this page and can see the pictures. all kinds of pictures from our viewers. make sure you are safe don't go to any great lengths to put yourself in danger to get the pictures. here's a picture from bridge view. lots of the southwest suburbs around midway, you can see one street after another is flooded.

all lanes of the eisenhower expressway are open this morning after yesterday's shut down. heavy rain left flooding on a section of the ike, stranding some drivers. lanes in both directions were closed between mannheim road and harlem. most were reopened in the morning, but the inbound right lane buckled at des plaines. the water and the mud that was there is gone, so now traffic can flow as normal. i-dot says a collapsed drain led to the flood. it doesn't mean the polar vortex is around the corner, but there are already early signs of autumn in the mountains of colorado. the leaves on aspen trees have begun to change color in summit county, west of denver. even for higher elevations, this is really early for that to be happening. more rain than usual may be the cause. the peak time for fall colors in colorado's high country is usually late september into october. this is like you giving me a traffic preludin before i give my friend. >> this coming next year's first all the traffic for you and then all to the news. here are the current temperatures. downtown worth 66. tempe
