a quick refresher what el nino is. i just always associate it with rain. >> you know, most often it is about increased rainfall and the season seeing higher than average rainfall. when it comes to el nino, it's all about the ocean temperatures, just like la nina. so la nina is the cooling of the ocean. el nino is the warming of oceans. so the specific waters get warmer. the key thing it does, when those ocean temperatures get warmer, the storm track develops more off to the south. that can bring more moisture taps, stronger storms, because they feed into this warmer water that helps to fuel these storms. the second thing that we see happen is the tradewinds start to calm out here in the equatorial pacific. the upwelling of the water in the pacific starts to go away, and we start to see the oceans heat up. then we get rapid intensification, rapid warming out here near the equatorial pacific. that could fuel some strong forms as we head into next year. >> this is really good to see. you talk about the warming oceans. so

. >> we are talking about el niÑo >> right, another el niÑo is growing in the pacific ocean, that couldave big consequence around the globe, whether it is flooding or droughts or heatwave, unusual weather patterns, coastal erosion is a big deal. el niÑo can result in literally trillions of daughter dollars amage efs e global economy. we want to talkpotel ct and what it is specifically referring to this pattern of ocean temperatures i the pacific ocean, water that i one, usually over the western pacific , surging to a differen spot, the eastern pacific as wind that drives the weather patterns reverse. we are not exactly sure why exactly that happens but the presence of thi patch of warm water over the eastern pacific throws off the weather pattern happening above it, which throws off everything happening downstream around the entire world. let's look at the big picture pattern of what is happening right now. we can focus on that part of the world just off the coast of south america, this tracks the deviation from normal temperatures, yellow orange an red indicate above average ocean surf
