i.s.i.l, el nusra, al sham, the islam it's groups, deemed terrorists, understandable they are not there but they hold more territory than other groups. how does that get dealt with in the frame of these negotiations? >> well i think they're just not going to be part of the negotiations and again, the objective from the u.s. side, but also, the at least stated russian objective is to eliminate i.s.i.s, i.s.i.l, whatever you want to call them and el nusra. if that's the case, and if we could at some point unite and together destroy them we on the u.s. is going to continue what we're doing relative to i.s.i.l. >> right you want all those groups to attack those groups but the reality even the syrian kurds who are supported by the u.s. aren't allowed to be at the negotiation table because of objections by turkey. i hate to keep asking the same question how do you keep the kurds out of a solution? >> you can't keep the kurds out of the solution. the curds are going to be part of solution in syria and obviously very active in iraq. if they're not in the room now it's probably not end of the wo

the problem is that two of the biggest groups the islamic state, so called islamic state and el nusraffiliate are not involved in peace talks and other important groups may not be involved at all and ceasefires are the main hope to come out of these talks in geneva and some humanitarian aid perhaps which could possibly lead to some repatriation of refugees, that is about the maximum that people can hope for and it might be tried on a localized basis and may take one or two provinces in syria and test these things out there. there is no agreement on the future political evolution, the roll of the assad government and this is the most important point of the peace talks to get an evolution to oppose assad government in the eyes of the opposition whereas the russians, iranians and assad don't particularly see a post assad outcome as something they have to agree to at the beginning of the talks. >> okay so small steps and thank you so much for speaking to us remy of the university in beirut there. still ahead on the al jazeera news hour. ♪ praying for a new life, why thousands of ethiopia
