if we could now call commissioner john elberling. >> good morning, commissioners. thank you for considering my appointment today. i have been on the commission from the beginning. i have been a ceo in the south of market working on a housing development for over 30 years now. the process is deeply engaged with our redevelopment agency, especially in yerba buena, so i'm very experienced in mid development in san francisco, and that is why when treasure island was declared surplus by the navy in the early 1990's, i join with a coalition of other community organizations, and i am one of the founders of the treasure island homeless development initiative. i have been working to try to realize this project was a potential to address homelessness and the issues in a proactive and positive way and -- in the context of a major redevelopment project, really a whole new town in san francisco. it is a unique opportunity, and i have worked really hard on trying to realize possibilities. i focused over the years on the community-building aspects and the community benefit aspect

john elberling and jean-paul samaha have done a good job. the experience they bring is important. i think it is important for us to have that continuity with respect to -- continuity. with respect to lend the richardson, we have heard a lot of a positive thing she brings. we may not always agree on every issue, but i respect where she is coming from, and i think she will do a good job in terms of the least representing the interests of overall, even if we may not agree on some issues. with respect to the two nominees, larry del carlo and larry mazzola jr., i think it is important to have labour representation. i am open to supporting mr. mazzola. mr. del carlo, his involvement and experience is something the project could benefit from. i don't have a problem moving these items for. the question that i have this the context or the form it takes. we do have a recommendation from the supervisor from the district that is a and asking -- that is asking to reject. i am not prepared to reject today. i think the board should take them and act on them quickly. i am prepared to do that. i a

[reading names] let's begin with those, and we have other people to call. >> good morning. i'm a business owner in san francisco. i represent about 750 small businesses, handle their employee benefits, but i really want to talk about the leadership we have an opportunity to have on that board that understands all of the stakeholders, whether it is the board of supervisors, whether it is low-income people, whether it is the environment. i think that we, like the san francisco giants winning the world series -- i think if we appointed the team that i see here -- larry mazzolo, linda richardson, claudine cheng, larry del carlo -- all these people understand what is at play here in san francisco. they understand the concerns of the members of the board of supervisors. they have a proven track record over and over again to do the right thing. these people -- they have

with respect to the various appointments, my understanding is that commissioners cheng, elberling and samaha have been serving on the tida board, and with respect to commissioner richardson -- she is serving right now, but she was recently appointed to that position. there were two additional appointments made to the tida board. those appointments were not forwarded to this meeting because the timeline to act for those appointments is actually different. in terms of what transpired at the rules committee, there was a motion to move this forward without a recommendation. i can only speak for myself to say that my preference was to continue these items because of the concerns that were raised by residents of treasure island, who were very worried about the fact that there is no island resident that has been nominated and that the one person who lives on the island who is currently serving on the tida board was not renominated. when asked about that, the mayor's office indicated they would open an application and have requested applications from residents of the island. it should be note
