eleanor roosevelt was in a unique situation. you had a major depression, a world war, you have everything going on the south, a lynching, the jim crow laws, and eleanor pulled that altogether in a way that no one else could. and other first ladies have responded to war. look at laura bush. president bush did not plan on being a wartime president and laura bush and not plan on the wartime first lady, but they adapt. i really think will happen is that some of this is going to be contextual and is going to be societal changes in what is going on politically, what is going on in the world, and they will begin adapting to it. so as a senate beginning, i don't think is going to be a whole lot to change, because that basic purpose is the president, is for the president's agenda, and they will find ways of doing it as every first lady as. >> people have a perception ladies and define what they are doing. well, they don't. miss johnson came in after jfk was assassinated, so her first year was defined by trying to work jackie kennedy. lau
