i as i, as elena was just talking about, i spoke with the ontario premier just in the last hour. he said that canada plans its own retaliatory tariffs and and she was making the note that, that the president says if that happens, they'll slap more tariffs on canada. how concerned are you about this turning into some sort of trade war? >> i think that would be a terrible outcome. like i said, maybe there is some off ramp where trump announced these tariffs, but everyone will get together and say, hey, we've decided on a fentanyl task force or something relatively meaningless that allows us to back down from all of that. the worst outcome, of course, is basically what you have described, which is that we impose tariffs. canada imposes retaliatory tariffs, as would mexico, as would presumably china. and we've had lists released of what those tariffs might target in many cases, very politically sensitive goods in the united states, florida orange juice, kentucky peanut butter and so on. and then we raise tariffs even further. and, you know, an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. th

first off, elena, what is happening at the cia? >> well, pamela, we know that last week, the office of personnel management and really just the white house overall had been offering this, what they call deferred resignation program for 2 million federal workers. now, that was not initially extended to national security officials and employees, noting, i think an apparent cognizant, of course, of their critical function to the security of the nation. however, we did learn that starting tuesday. now, employees at the cia are now being offered this, we are told, and this is according to our reporting from katie polglase and kaitlan collins, that cia director john ratcliffe was behind this and he personally wanted employees at the cia and within the agency to have this type of option and to be able to opt in to the program. now, this seems like a recently, you know, new decision. as of last week, we know that many people at the cia were questioning whether or not they would be able to try and get into this deferred resignation program.

elena, what are you hearing from the white house? as this deadline looms? >> well, one thing to keep in mind here, boris, is just how quick this decision really was for some of the 2 million federal workers who were offered this deferred resignation program, as the white house is calling it. now, remember, it was just last week that they said, look, you can take this offer, go. and voluntary paid leave through september 30th, but you have until february 6th at 11:59 p.m., aka tonight to decide. now, one thing, of course, that i've been picking up on in conversations with different federal workers is they are anxious that this is actually what they what the white house says it is that they will actually be able to receive full pay and benefits through the end of september. you mentioned the unions, the unions are actually urging some federal workers not to take this offer, arguing one, they're questioning the legality of it, but also questioning whether or not the money will actually be there to continue paying them, especially when you keep in mind that the
