i got to meet elena aguilar. she lived much of her life as an undocumented immigrant. got to vote for the very first time and not only did she get to vote for the first woman presidential nominee, she also got to cast a vote for herself and she won her own race for the local school board. my friends, there is nothing more uniquely american than that story, and that's why i have never been more optimistic about our future. one of the silver linings of this moment, this dark moment that we are all living through today, is that never before have we as a people been more eager to participate, to advocate and to fight back. across social justice movements we have all stood shoulder to shoulder to fight for the equality and the equal dignity of all people. and that is a fight we must pursue with a greater urgency now than ever before. thank you all very much for having me here. >> ladies, we are honored to bring our next speaker to the stage, welcome president and director council of the naacp legal defense and educational fund, sherrilyn ifill.
