let's speak to eleni giokos who is live for us in cairo. so playing out as you expected.ve talked about the amount of aid. not quite enough, not nearly enough to deal with the problem there, but it is significant that those trucks are going in. >> reporter: it is significant. and it is significantly way more than we've seen since october 7. important to remember that before the war began, there were over 445 trucks going into gaza on a daily basis on a good day. so this was a population that already heavily relied on aid. and then you see the war breaking out and now we are hearing that just absolute catastrophic scenarios on the ground and rei will rated by the international aid organizations. but i want to take you through what we've seen today. you and i have been talking about how many trucks have been gathering at the border over the last few days in anticipation for this truce to kick in. because there is an understanding of just how many delays occur because of the checkpoints, because they need to figure out the logistics. not only on the egyptian side, but also o

. >> and eleni giokos is in egypt where those babies are receiving the desperately needed care. oren lieberman is joining us from tel aviv. let's start with the hostages. what can you tell us? >> there has been a bit of scepticism by the families that deal is that close to happening. part of it is that they have heard too much of it, they have heard a deal a imminent too many times. instead they are just urging the government do whatever it can to bring the hostages home. whether that is an exchange or other means. they say the video released is from inside the hospital on october 7, and some of this is a bit graphic. the idf has accused hamas of not only using the underneath but also the hospital complex and here they say it shows an nepally citizen and a thai citizen brought inside the hospital itself shortly after the attack. interestingly in a response, hamas didn't respond to these specific videos but said broadly that yes, it brought hostages to the hospitals as part of what it called its meticulous monitoring of the hostages before being placed in die tension. >> and you

eleni giokos is joining me. take us through this summit. >> reporter: what we've seen is the arab and muslim leaders coming together to discuss the dire humanitarian crisis that currently is happening in gaza. we heard it from your previous guest in terms of just how bad the deficits are of food, water and medical supplies. but the arab and muslim world are meeting to show a force. they show united front, and this is a region that came together to put a list of condemnations, of demands, and it is an important resolution. but it was lacking is real action points from a multilateral perspective from the region and that caused a lot of disillusion in terms of what we've been seeing on social media. people felt that this should have been a lot more action plan. the only real big thing that came out of this, the call on the u.n. security council to take action and the icc as well. but one important point here, you have iranian president going to saudi arabia for the very first time. saudi and iran mended relations e

eleni giokos is following out of that from cairo.ent a of aid it feels will be enough at this point, but what do you understand about the aid, what is included and how it will bedistributed? >> reporter: it is not really clear in terms of what is going in right now. what we do know is that there are dozens of trucks now heading toward the rafah border. our teams on the ground are saying they have never seen this busy especially over the past few weeks. but what we do know is that there are -- they are waiting in anticipation for that truce to come into effect to get the much needed aid into the gaza strip. in terms of what we know that has already gone in, i'll bring you some of the numbers of the 6,000 tons of food, 2,000 tons of medical aid and 4500 tons of water. and so we're hoping for more going in. it might sound like a significant number, but frankly the organizations on the ground, max, have been very clear that they are running out of water, that food is scarce, fuel is a very big issue because it can't -- you know, it is on

eleni giokos is following this from cairo.knew that the 13 were initially expected to be released, the israeli hostages to come to israel, but what can you tell us about the release of the thai nationalssimultaneousl? >> yes, this is a breakthrough moment here given that we have seen 13 israeli women and children released today, and you know, a big focus on that cessation of the fighting and importantly seeing aid passing through, and then an hour ago we had the information coming through from the state information services in egypt announcing that egypt had intense negotiations with hamas, and secured the release of 12 thai nationals. now, whether they are going to be released today or in the coming days, that remains to be seen, and in terms of the actual number, they told me a short time ago this is still in progress. we know that we have heard from thailand as well from the thai officials, and they have confirmed that this is the expectation. but this is really big news, because you get the sense that the egyptians are abl

eleni giokos joins us with the latest. >> yes, this is big news, because we knew that there were only a couple of doctors left at al shifa, and then we hear from the ministry of health in gaza saying not only the director of the hospital, but other doctors have been arrested or detained at a checkpoint in the evacuations. now, from what we understand, this is for questioning according to the idf, but take a listen to what peter learner, the spokesman from the idf, about what they plan to do and ask the director of the al shifa hospital. >> he needs to be questioned in the constant state of denial saying it does not happen, and how could the general manager of the hospital not know about the extent of the tunnel systems? >> at minimum, we have to see exactly what he can share with us about his knowledge. >> you have to remember that the idf ended on a raid on the al shifa hospital, and what that meant for the medical perspective and the ability of the doctors do their work. al shifa has been one of issue since the start of october 7th when we saw the idf saying that not only are hospit

eleni giokos is joining us from the border, and tell us what the situation is like there as we wait for the pause in fighting? >> well, it is a flurry of activity, and basically, around rafah, they have been seeing dozens of trucks lining up in anticipation for the truce to kick in. the fact that they have agreed now to 200 trucks of aid to enter gaza daily while this truce is on the go is really big news. we have heard from the international organizations that have been saying that they are in desperate need of all resources from food and water, federal supplies, and we have to remind the audience just what it means to be somebody injured in gaza right now, the chances are that you are getting surgery without anesthesia or an amputation without anesthesia, and these are the horror stories that we are hearing. we have bumped into a group of people who had just come into egypt from gaza, and saying for days, no access to food or water, and that is how dire the situation is. so get the aid to hold up as much as possible. >> that is becky anderson with a view from cairo, and now, there are

c cnn's eleni giokos joins us. what more do we know? >> we saw the images of the strewn bodies on the ground, the bloodied bodies. we know the u.n. secretary-general was horrified by this and again reiterating the call for humanitarian pause or a cease-fire, something that has been gaining in momentum in terms of f the pressure that is now against the u.s. and israel to get that done. antony blinken was in israel yesterday. he met with benjamin netanyahu talking about the call for a pause at the very least to try to get more aid into gaza. we know the humanitarian situation there is intensifying. we're hearing horrific stories about hospitals and doctors having to conduct surgeries without anesthetics. water is being depleted, and very little aid is going into gaza at this time. the idea that they attacked hamas operatives, we know that this was a convoy of ambulances that were heading to the south carrying patients. these are the things we hear. it's how many hamas targets there were. the death toll up to 9,000. antony blinken was very

eleni giokos is joining us with the latest. what was the mother able to get out saying? >> she was trapped in the al shifa hospital, and she says that war was raging around and inside of the hospital. she describes a harrowing situation. she says that the baby was born prematurely, and says they ran out of oxygen and milk, and explains conditions, and how petrifying it was for her. she also talks about the evacuation into egypt, and i know that you mentioned moving from al shifa hospital, and into egypt, but there was a stop first at the el emirati hospita and they stopped there to stabilize the babies and then on to egypt. this is what she had to say. >> translator: thankfully the coordination was very good. they called us to come to the hospital. i was one of the displaced. within hours, we were here and well received. egypt is the best place on earth. >> reporter: she says that the babies trapped were innocent of the war, and she says that she was trapped at the hospital as well. and she says they were trapped at the border for a week with incue bays or the and waitin

and that's where cnn's eleni giokos is standing by.rning to you, what is the latest on the condition of those seriously ill babies and the plans to transfer them out of gaza? >> reporter: yeah, look, as you say, all of them are fighting serious infection, that's according to the world health organization and 11 of them are in critical condition. speaking to some of the doctors inside the hospital, in the southern part of gaza, they say the condition is difficult, stable, but they could deteriorate, given the fact they might run out of electricity because of the fuel situation. while they've evaded some of the biggest risks at al shifa hospital where they've potentially been trapped, now, they're in the southern part of gaza where medical supplies and also fuel has run short. you spoke about al shifa hospital. we know there was an idf raid there. the egyptian authorities have been waiting for 36 neonatal babies for over a week now. sadly, they were saying every minute is critical. we know that number has now changed, kasey, we know it's

. >> eleni giokos, thank you. and joining me in ramali is spokesman from the policy lead. and what are you hearing about the deal and when you can start delivering the aid? >> we were hoping of course for that to happen today. but we're hearing this is delayed to tomorrow. so hopefully the entry of the trucks, though limited, can start tomorrow for four days. this pause is a welcome respite. i have family in gaza. i have my colleagues there. i hope that they will be able to get some sleep because that has been some -- that is something that we don't necessarily talk about, but people, you know, are surviving on very little sleep because of the relentless bombing and relentless sound of drones that are constant over their heads. and hope that also it gives time to those families to bury their relatives and mourn their relatives because in the last almost two months now, there has been really no time to do so. but beyond that, any aid that enters in the next four days is not enough. not nearly enough to meet the needs of 2.2 million civilians, half of which are children, esp

eleni giokos, thank you very much. >>> joining us, an israeli journalist, political and foreign policy reporter for action owes. first off, what are you hearing about the status of the negotiations for release of hostages? throughout this war we've been hearing it's close and then it's not. this seems to be more ream, is it not? >> good evening. i think we're still not there yet. i don't think we should look at it as if a deal is a done thing and that it's just a matter of time until they announce it. we're still not there. there are still several things that are still open. it's sort of like watching paint dry. it's very, very, very slow, but at a certain moment, it will be a deal. and i think that's sort of -- the sort of consensus among all the people that are dealing with this thing, is that this is on track for happening, unless, again, something happens on the ground that once again scuttles the whole thing, some incident in gaza or something else. if not, i think we're on a path that would lead us within a few days to a possible deal. >> in a few days. what are the main sticking

eleni giokos is joining us from cairo. what do we know about the aid trucks? this was a big part of the negotiation, how many hundreds would be allowed in per day. >> reporter: we understand over 200 aid trucks will be allowed in per day and we've been seeing the activity the last 24 hours going toward the rafah border. our sources on the ground are telling us that the trucks that are loaded with tons and tons of food and water and other medical supplies will be absolutely ne needed. we've been hearing how doctors have been embarking on surgerie harrowing stories. and international area agencies are saying that they are running out of water and food. and of course an important part is getting fuel into gaza. we have seen some fuel go into keep the hospitals running. the idf have time and time again said if fuel enters gad za and into the hands of hamas, that is a big risk. but it goes to the aid organizations and they decide how they will distribute it. >> and speaking of aid organizations, red cross saying that it is unaware of any deal that would allow the o

eleni giokos is live in cairo where we're expecting to see the aid go in once the deal does begin. and i wonder, have the drivers of these trucks, have officials there on the ground heard anything about the timing here? >> reporter: we don't know about the timing but we know we're seeing huge convoys of trucks carrying a lot of aid. and frankly, that has now been ratcheting up over the past couple of days. we've heard from the team on the ground saying that fuel trucks have entered gaza. two trucks. the normal quota we've seen the past few days. but it is the big question on the aid. now, this truce is going to allow a lot more to get into the gaza strip which is desperately needed. and we know medical supplies are running out. food, water, and importantly fuel. we actually spoke to one little palestinian boy that was injured and evacuated into egypt and this is what he thought about the four day truce. take a listen. >> translator: i want them for extend it to a full humanitarian tr truce so we can live free and safe. four days will not be enough to even bury the martyrs. >> repor
