elie, give me your legal expertise. .the committee that jay sekulow told him that pardons were under consideration for him and others and they were about shutting the investigations down. what does this sound like to you? >> to me, don, this is more strongly corroborated than the first piece about the false testimony because this is not really news to us. robert mueller in the report has an entire section about the president dangling pardons and using pardons, or the promise of pardons, to try to dissuade people from cooperating. we saw some more detail about that last week relating to michael flynn. we know that he tried the same thing with paul manafort. it's one thing if michael cohen says it. it's another thing if robert mueller has already put it in his report and by the way and the president's tweeted about it. the president praised manafort and roger stone and attacked michael cohen for being a rat. this is an area i consider more strongly corroborated with respect to cohen's testimony. >> when i thought things cou

elie honig, jackie kucinich on the political site.lie, to you on where we go from here, what do you expect? do you expect bill barr will be held in contempt? as a journalist, one of the journalists in the crowd rightly asked, isn't that just going to get tied up in the courts and drag out the clock? >> not particularly optimistic that their last-ditch effort that representative nadler talked about to negotiate will succeed. assuming it does not succeed, next step would be contempt and then we're going into the courts. yes, it will take time and yes it will get sort of complex and difficult. things move through the court at a slower pace than people often imagine. it's hard to see this case getting litigated and it's not just a one-shot deal. they'll start in the district court and whoever loses will almost certainly appeal to

let's discuss with elie honig, and julie hirshfield davis. elie, put on your lawyer hat. how is that not obstruction of justice? you have the president's personal counsel saying this wouldn't be a good idea for you to cooperate. >> it's a great question. in the real world of criminal justice, this is obstruction of justice. let's come out and say it. what the law requires is that somebody is trying to influence, delay, or impede someone's testimony or providing information to the government. it's hard to look at that voice mail and really draw any other conclusion. what we see there and see throughout this case is that trump and the people around him, including the attorneys, are using the carrot and the stick. the sort of threats, sometimes veiled, sometimes less so. but also the rewards. he still has this warm feelings for you, coming from the person who has the pardon power. i think that tells you something. and look, just for perspective, this is one of three people who the mueller report says trump and the people around him tried to dissuade. manafort is the second.

the president and his supporters are calling to investigate the investigators, elie. congressman amash said he has no problem investigating the fbi, but he knows -- he says the findings should not be selectively withheld to mislead anyone as william barr did with the mueller report. do you see a doj with bill barr at the helm? >> i share the same skepticism. i mean fool me once, fool me twice, right? bill barr had a copy of the mueller report before anyone else. he held it back from the public for 3 1/2 weeks, and he misrepresented to all of us, to the public and to congress, what was in it. you know how we know that? because robert mueller said so. we found out afterwards. robert mueller wrote that letter to bill barr saying you misrepresented, you misstated the content, substance of my findings. >> yeah. >> right? so, yeah, i don't trust him, and i think this move to investigate the investigators, it's overkill, and it's potentially dangerous. and it could out sensitive methods. i don't trust bill barr to do the right thing. i think he'll put politics first. >> than
