elie honig here, former federal prosecutor, legal jeangenius. you have been poring over this. it's hard to speed read this kind of decision. but what is the big picture here? >> biggest picture, huge win for jack smith. unequivocal win for jack smith. the language in this ruling is very strong. they forcefully reject donald trump's immunity arguments. there's really three major findings that the d.c. court of appeals makes here. first of all, they reject this notion of blanket immunity. they say it is not and cannot be that a president simply can never be charged for anything that happens during his time in office. second, the court of appeals in d.c. says, if we're asking the question whether donald trump's conduct was inside his job as president or outside his job as president, they say he was out of bounds here. he's not covered because high was out of bounds. even if there is am immunity for stuff that's inside the presidency, he's way out of it. fully, they reject this i think ludicrous argument that, well, a president can only be indicted if he has first been impeached b

here now, cnn senior legal analyst, elie honig, elie, like i said, a big verdict, a big price tag. what happens next there? >> their job we didn't need a crystal ball to see that there was going to be a substantial verdict verdict, but boy, oh, boy, this one came down. if you total up donald trump got hit with a 350 million plus verdict plus smaller verdicts for his children. if you add interest on there, it gets over $400 million. we're talking about an enormous number, also important to note, the judge could have revoked the business certificates, which essentially would have been the corporate death penalty. but instead, the judge chose to essentially enter the company into corporate rehab of a sore. so first of all, there will be industry suspensions. donald trump cannot be an officer of any company in new york for three years. his sons for two years, and there will be internal controls and internal monitor keeping an eye on the finances. the goal here of the judges to try to clean up the trump organization. now, as to what happens next, first, donald trump will have to post a

elie what are the options? so he's filed this ahead of time.e did it before for the deadline. it now does trump file is something again or is this supreme court answer his filing? >> yes. so typically there would be a reply brief from donald trump's team. there's no set deadline for that, but if i was them, i would want to get that in real quick. and then the supreme court, why would you want to get that in quick? >> delay things? >> because i would want to get it in before they rule because they're not necessarily the supreme court is not necessarily going to wait if i take a week or two, so i would want to get the last word in as to the supreme court's options. they need to decide, first of all, are we going to keep the stay, the pause on the district court that actually takes five justices and related to that sort of inseparable from that is will they take the case itself, which only takes for justice, isn't every time i see one of these briefs, i changed my mind. this is such a close call. i mean, i totally can see them rejecting this for t

let's bring in cnn, senior legal analyst, elie honig. let's ask you the most obvious question. first wins the supreme court going to decide what they're doing here? so phil the first thing that we're going to hear from the supreme court in this could come as soon as today. i think what they're going to say is, okay, donald trump, we've heard what you want us to do. now we need to hear from jack smith fairly quickly. then they're going to have to make the big decisions. first, do they issue a stay, meaning a pause, putting everything on hold and if so, for how long? and then the real big decision does the supreme court take the case if they reject this case, or if they summarily dismiss it, then in all likelihood we will see this case go to trial late spring, early summer. but if the supreme court takes this case, fill, all bets are off and there's a fairly good chance. we don't see this case tried until after the election so that's how high the stakes are with this particular exchange for federal judges, as paula reid rightly pointed out last night he said the same thing on thi

let's bring in cnn, senior legal analyst, elie honig. elie, what comes next for the former president after this massive judgment against him? >> what will the first thing that donald trump has to do is post a bond. now that does not mean that he has to post the full amount, $350 million plus in cash, usually a bond is either worked out between the parties or the judge will order it. there typically will be some cash component, but you can usually secure the rest of it pipe posting a de to property or other values like that. once donald trump post the bond, he can then appeal. he has a right to appeal to the mid-level new york state appeals court. and that if he loses their he can try to get it up to the highest level in new york appeals court, but they don't have to take the case. but one thing to know when this appeals process is all over, whatever dollar amount comes out of this that is not optional, that is not negotiable. donald trump will have to pay that. >> when do you expect trump will file his appeal. and how likely is that? thi
