we've had hearings with, both elijah cummings, we've had many conversations about this, i was diagnosed almost eight years ago with stage for the kimia. elijah and i, now chairwoman maloney, we've had hearings about this, we brought the ceo here. this drug that keeps me and a lot of people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia alive, it costs $150,000 a year. in europe, it is less than half of that. in australia, a fully loaded rather than $150 a day, it is $40 a day. clearly, when i look at that particular drug, and the history of it, with much of the research starting in the department of defense, starting world war i, actually, with cancer studies. the american cancer institution, trying to figure out where the base level of research on drugs like this came from, and the benefit we get, wall street journal did a couple of interesting stories on this drug, and just talked about upper income and we could imagine poor americans making life decisions. doctor benjamin talked about families sharing drugs this frequent on this particular drug. why does it have to be that way? this american taxp
