i'm eliot spitzer. tonight, the final sad chapter in weenther's very public meltdown. the way these thing work, we're told he would resign many hours before it actually happened. that in turn led to hours of speculation about how it would happen. what he would say, whether his wife would be at his side. and then finally, the week of drama and speculation were over. i said this a week ago and i'll say it again. weiner's behavior was awful. cnn i know what the rest of the media played a crucial role in revealing it but there is something frightening. something worth examining in the gigantic media swarm that descends when these stories develop. some would say that i of all people have no business commenting on this because of the events that led to my resignation as governor of new york. but maybe because i've been on both sides of the story, i'm well suited to have a conversation on how this was covered. and we will have it in a few moments. but first a look at the other stories we're examining tonight. >>> planned parenthood under fire. a woman's right to choose denied

i found it ironic last night that eliot spitzer was interviewing people talking about these sorts of activities, and that cycle is going on and on. if you want to play a drinking game, you know, who wants to take bets of when we're going to have the first appearance of gloria allred? it's inevitable. i'm getting off the point a little bit here. but at some point i think it was around the time of the o.j. case where you had this confluence of a big public figure, it was a juicy trial, and cable news was just becoming a force. it changed the environment in which we operate, at least criminal system operates. because it's not just cases anymore, it's entertainment. it's a whole media frenzy on big cases. and i don't think that's a very good thing, but that is the environment in which we operate. and lawyers have to deal with that now. >> a very good point. we have some questions from the audience. i'm going to ask the first one for paulette. in taking tony's essence, who he is as a trial lawyer, how does you tell that story in the book? paulette's book is for sale in the lobby and also

we saw it with eliot spitzer, mark sanford, we see it here with weiner and even president clinton where person will engage in this behavior, then publicly lie and deny the behavior as if they're not going to get caught. what component is that? >> well, particularly for public figures, there is tremendous stress in the work that they do paired with often a lot of traveling and a lack of close emotional supports from their primary partner or staff. >> we see that in that type of a position but more and more we read about articles about people becoming more just average people, engaging in the same type of risky behavior on facebook, having illicit relationships, extramarital relationships. if that's the case for high profile people, why is the average person putting themselves in this position as well? >> well, the internet in general is a much more powerful venue than anything we've ever experienced before. and primarily because of the perceived anonymity afforded by it, the mistaken privacy that people believe they have. >> it's almost people get more emboldened when they're online, too
