reporting live in studio, elisa raffa.. abc9 news jenna: expect to see all 5 of sioux city's swimming pools open again next summer. that's the recomendation from a "pools committee" examining the long term future of sioux city swimming pools. that committee has been meeting for months, but until today had not offered an official plan. in a unanimous vote, the committee also wants to see 3 city pools closed after next year. here's the breakdown.... replace leeds and cook pools with splash pads after 2016 season. replace leif erikson with a splash pad when it's no longer operational. built in 1977, engineers say leif erikson pool is sinking and would need to be rebuilt. meanwhile the committee is recomending the city look for a future pool site on the northside. the group also wants to close lewis pool.... but not until a new regional water park is built on the city's east side. riverside pool already includes some water park options and would remain open according to the plan. jenna on cam the pools committee plans to hold a public me

abc9 news reporter elisa raffa has the story. nats... railroad the intersection at 31st and lewis blvd was closed on november 2nd for railway construction. the problem? the city was notified by a frustrated business owner, not the company. burlington northern santa fe says they use a third party communicator, road safe, and they never delievered the message to the city. the city says it's frustrating. "we need to have notification because then we don't have the opportunity to review their detour sign plans at all, and so that's a big issue" says jill wanderscheid, neighborhood services manager. bnsf says they finished a project in montana early, that's what brought them back to thr but they did what they could to go through the proper venue to notify the city. wanderscheid says this is not the first time. "when things like this come up it is extremely frustrating because we've had meetings in the past with local staff and staff at their executive level out of minneapolis, and to not see improvement is very frustrating for all of us" says

abc9 news reporter elisa raffa has more. the pool that taught you how to swim, not sink, may be closing. cook, leeds, leif, and lewis.... all pools causing some tension for sioux cty parks and rec. three are pushing 40 years old, leeds has a small capacity and leif has serious structural damage, but coming to a collective solution has been tough for the committee. after another meeting on monday, the committee is only sure about one pool. "the only real consensus the committee has right now is to move forward with a regional aquatic center in the morningside area and keep lewis pool until that new facility would open" says matt salvatore, director of sioux city parks and rec. some solutions discussed at monday's meeting included replacing some pools with splash pads, costs are cheaper to renovate and maintain. but the biggest debate: which pools to close and which leave open with possle renovations. some committee members were concerned about location and transportation to the facilities, but emotions are playing a large rol
