january 17, 1982 when elisabeth martinsson came here to buy a pair of boots. her friends and family never saw her alive again. it took investigators 33 years to find and identify her remains. >> reporter: hikers made it discovery in 2010. the remains belong to elisabeth martinsson missing since 1982. >> we don't have all the answers. that is what we are searching for. it is wonderful -- like i said, get closure to the family. >> she was in the area for just a couple months. one saturday she left to go shopping and never returned. ktvu fox 2 news covered her disappearance. you can see reporting on the information released by investigators. today sheriffs talked about reopening the cold case with a press release. >> we will exhaust all leads we can. >> reporter: now the focus switched to finding the person responsibility for the death. henry coleman was considered a person of disappearance. >> her vehicle was located in oklahoma. >> reporter: investigators say there was never enough evidence to arrest him. investigators didn't go public with the information till

elisabeth martinsson a 21-year-old swedish exchange student, a nanny for a greenbrae host family while attending college of marin. she was last seen at the landing shopping center 23 years ago and then in 2010 human bones were found in a rural area of fremont. last november the justice department was finally able to match them to martinsson through dental records. the coroner could not come up with a cause of death but since then marin county sheriff's detectives have been looking for this man, henry coleman. he was a person of interest when police found him with her car shortly after her disappearance. sheriff's detective jamie scardina. >> approximately ten days after miss martinsson disappeared her vehicle was located in oklahoma and mr. coleman was in possession of that vehicle at the time. >> reporter: authorities eventually dropped a murder case against him for lack of evidence, but coleman pleaded guilty to stealing the car and served five years in prison. now with a dental match coleman is once again a person of interest. >> we're not going to stop until we determine that he is

now investigators confirm remains found in 2010 belonged to elisabeth martinsson. it took several years to identify them. >> several remains for various places on the body. and also teeth. >> henry coleman was a person of interest. investigators are now looking for him.
