elise, tell us about how the people who were attacked were doing and also the status of the attacker. >> reporter: well, one of the wounded was seriously wounded. the others have a range of injuries from light to moderate. what happened was really dramatic. as you said, the driver was the first person stabbed. and what he did was slam on the brakes. he veered the bus to the right. everybody started coming out, the doors were opened. they started flooding out. that palestinian attacker started stabbing other people as they were leaving the bus. then this dramatic video is him running from the scene, stabbing this young woman and then running away again. two guards from the israeli prison authority saw what was going on, saw the chaos. started following him in pursuit. they shot him, cuffed him. he was arrested and now he is in the hospital in custody, ashleigh. >> in custody in the hospital. has the interrogation of him begun while he's in his hospital bed with a bullet wound in his leg? >> reporter: he was interrogated -- i think the israelis were trying to see if he was working with

elise labott is joining us from jerusalem. what's been the response to this attack both from the israeli government and from the palestinian authority? >> reporter: wolf the israeli authorities captured this man right after the attack happened and they were interrogating him trying to see if he was working with anybody. it doesn't seem he was. seems it was more one of those so-called lone wolf attacks. but what the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said is that it's palestinian incitement against the israelis anti-semitism we've seen around the world that inspires palestinians to make attacks against israelis and thus after hamas praised the attack. there was no implication that hamas was involved. but hamas praising the attack and saying the israelis deserved it because of their treatment of the palestinians. >> has there been any official reaction from the palestinian authority leadership? >> reporter: no, there hasn't. this 23-year-old palestinian from the west bank city was shot in the leg, as we said he's in polic
