elissa harrington joins us live on the campus. what does this mean for the students. >> reporter: starting monday, classes will be moved online. stanford made the announcement that they are putting restricts on large events and they have canceled their admin weekend event scheduled for late april. the university sent out a letter to the campus community. i will read part of it. it says we recognize this is an adjustment for instructors but we are taking this step off thoughtful consideration and i have been in touch with the chair of the faculty that concur. they made this spread because of the coronavirus in santa clara county and the world. two student on campus that had to self isolate after possibly being exposed to covid-19. according to the san jose mercury news, a student with the school of medicine tested positive for coronavirus. the school emailed a statement saying they emailed people that may have been exposed and asking them to self isolate. in sunnyvale a scare after officers performed cpr on a dying man that was on

ktvu's elissa harrington shows us what county officials are doing to create a safer environment. >> reporter: these buildings at the santa clara fairgrounds are typically packed with people or booths for different types of events, but not anymore. cindy chavez, president of the santa clara county board of supervisors, says the space will be used to provide shelter for the homeless during the covid-19 pandemic. this will include 60 to 80 cots spaced six feet apart for social distancing. >> what we're trying to do is make sure none of the shelters are so crowded that it's easy if somebody gets sick or somebody has the virus that other people get it easily. >> reporter: the plan is to remove people who are already staying in some of the county's busy shelters and bring them here instead. they will have access to clean bathrooms to wash hands and the second building will be used for either overflow or a place where people can sign up for benefits. if someone gets sick, they will be sent to a state-provided trailer for isolation. >> i know people recall frightened. i know that 25 families lost lo
