elizabeth. >> reporter: after nearly four hour police pursuit, they have their man. let's take a look at the dramatic video that came through just under an hour ago. we just spoke to the pittsburgh police and the man seen in this video with his hands above his head is direl wayne jones. he is a suspect. he is a known gang member and on patrol for armed robbery. he was seen limping from the house because he was hit by the officer. police say the chase started at around 5:30 this evening on atlantic boulevard when direl ran through a stop sign. after he refused to pull over, he ran into a small wall, got out of his car and fired several rounds at the patrol car. he never hit the officer. the officer did fire back hitting him in the leg. he ran over to west boulevard. that neighborhood there where he barricaded himself inside a friend's home. he is now at the hospital in police custody and neighbors are breathing a sigh of relief. patrol cars, windshield is riddled with bullet holes. it looks like the suspect was aiming right for the driver. the side rear window is blow

elizabeth cook is near the house that police surrounded. elizabeth, what's going on if. >> nearly four hours of pursuit, police made an arrest. roll to that tape and i'll show you moments ago, a man came out with his hands up unharmed. police quickly put him in handcuffs, then a team of police went into the house to check for safety. the man who was arrested is now in an ambulance truck. they could not confirm if that was indeed the suspect, but meanwhile the people who live in this area are breathing a sigh of relief. patrol cars, windshield is riddled with bullet holes. it looks like the suspect was aiming right for the driver. the side rear window is blown out. the officer is okay, here he is taking off his bullet proof vest. it's the end of what police say was a chase through pittsburgh streets that started when the suspect refused to pull over for a routine traffic stop. the suspect's car, a gold cadillac, had crashed into a retaining wall. after the gunman opened fire, he ran off into the neighborhood. police and sheriff deputies scou

elizabeth, what's the local reaction to bin laden's death? >> here in abbottabad where he was killed, people are still shaking their heads in disbelief. it's a small town. it's sort of a country town, really. people can't believe the most wanted man in the world was living in their midst. elsewhere in southern pakistan, there has been a demonstration by an islamist party. it's quite a radical islamic party. there they've staged pro-bin laden demonstrations. pakistan is filled with sympathizers. and the government is braced for more demonstrations of this kind. >> what are you hearing from pakistani officials in response to this u.s. mission? >> well, they are being a little shy of overtly commenting except to say this was a u.s. operation. according to u.s. policy, we are committed to stamping out terrorism. but they're clearly very embarrassed by the fact that bin laden was living in a town that is a garrison town that has 120,000 either active duty or retired military personnel in it. it's mind boggling and it -- it makes it appear as if ei

elizabeth wenger has more. >> reporter: that's right. we were told by a hospital spokesperson that stow is expected to arrive sometime this afternoon at san francisco general between 3:00 and 5:00. expected to fly by medical jet over to sfo and be transferred here by ambulance sometime this afternoon. are you taking a live look from southern california. these are aerial pictures. we understand that he just arrived now at burbank airport. and he left usc medical center in los angeles. about a half hour ago. we're also told his family is driving up from santa cruz to meet him here at san francisco general. and at a news conference yesterday, doctors said stow is stable enough to head home to the bay area. he is no longer in a medically induced coma. he has opened his eyes several times. and doctors say he is still in critical condition. the stow family said they leave l.a. with no ill feelings. in fact, they expressed sadness about leaving all of the doctors and nurses and people in los angeles who showed them a lot of support. the giants
