elizabeth: big stories in central iowa now. a late night stand-off ends with a new development in a double homicide investigation. michael wanchanic was spotted just after six tuesday evening at a casey's store in woodward. interest in a double homicide in des moines on monday. several miles of highway 141 between bouton and woodward were blocked off for nearly five hours while police engaged in a standoff with wanchanic. police say the van that he was in died, and he eventually got too cold, threw a handgun onto the highway, and surrendered around 10:30 p.m. 36-year-old bryon howard and 31-year-old heather belieu were the victims in monday's double homicide. their friends and family came together last night for a candlelight vigil at the pedestrian bridge at 42nd street in des moines. howard's mother says she is overwhelmed by the support for her son and his fiance. dawn marks: it's hard to make sense of anything like this but i know god's in control and i know my son is wrapped in the arms of jesus. he was an awesome son and

elizabeth: i'm elizabeth klinge. shaina and metinka are also here today. luckily the rain has stopped and people are probably checking their basements. metinka: at least it stopped, great news out there, it will be quieter but grab a warm coat. 36 now in des moines, 34 in ames. we have clouds out there, no fog in central iowa and no rain or snow falling currently. it is a beautiful one to come on down and donate for toys for tots. temperatures by the early afternoon in the upper 40's and cooling down by the time a pleasant day, warmer than last year but it will be breezy with is a moving on after 7:00 p.m. elizabeth: thanks metinka. this morning several central iowa roads are still closed because of flooding, so you may need to change your route to work. first, des moines' main link from downtown to the airport is closed. fleur drive could be covered by two and a half feet of water by tonight. right now, the raccoon river is at 16 and a half feet. it's forecast to rise another 2 feet. and fleur drive won't reopen until officials can clean up the damage. jo

elizabeth: i am elizabeth klinge. metinka: we are getting the snow now in des moines over toward newton, knoxville, winterset, and creston. pink showing up across ottumwa, this is a wintry mix. the full rainbow all across the state. a wintry mix off to the east and some ice in the south. in des moines, sleet and freezing rain, plus we will pick up 1-3 inches of snow before afternoon as when snowfall rates will wrap up, at the rate of about one to two inches per hour. we will pick up another three inches this afternoon, and maybe another inch overnight so a widespread six to eight inches of snow is expected. eric: alyx sacks is out this morning keeping and i on the roads as the storm moves in from the south. elizabeth: she joins us live. alyx: we are about 40 miles south of des moines traveling north on i-35 just past mile marker 40. we just drove past osceola a and things are getting pretty dicey. the roads are completely covered at this point, making it rather difficult to see the line. the visibility when the snow i

elizabeth: thank you. the latest look at 511ia.org shows roads across the state are still a mess after monday's storm. pink here means roads are completely covered. blue means partially covered. so if you're heading out anywhere around iowa today, you'll want to take it easy and give yourself more time. eric: monday night, travel was not advised east of the metro to grinnell. several vehicles were scattered in the ditch along i-80 eastbound, like this fed ex truck near mitchellville. many drivers were taking it slow, only going about 30 miles per hour on the interstate. and several truck drivers decided not to risk it and just parked for the night. jacob benson: i parked here just for my personal safety. park, so i figured i would stop for the night. things were going too slow and i just didn't want to cause an accident or be in an accident. eric: probably a wise choice. state patrol says they had 236 calls for service monday. fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. the storm also caused headaches

elizabeth: thanks metinka. a case of revenge? someone torched a mobile speed camera truck this weekend in fort dodge. eric: and as todd magel reports police are now asking for help to find the arsonist. todd: this is where the mobile speed camera was set up here side of town. there's not much left but a few burned pieces of the truck. it's dark now but this was this cell phone video shows the full force of the mobile speed camera fire. it engulfed the ford escape suv. the first call went to the fire department. the second call to police. >> when i got the call that it really? someone would do that? todd: fort dodge police chief kevin doty says he's never seen his guess? someone angry about getting a ticket decided to get some revenge. it worked. the fire destroyed the truck and all the cameras inside. about $40,000 in damage. >> i understand that people might not like the fact that they get a citation from the vehicle. but to go to the point of destroying the vehicle just amazed me. todd: police are looking at surveillance video

. -- a high of elizabeth: we start 53. in newton this morning where authorities have two people, 44-year-old david kelso and 35-year-old jennifer kelso, in custody. newton police say a suspected explosive device was found during a drug search warrant at a home on 1st avenue west in newton. eric: the bomb threat evacuated the surrounding neighborhood and diverted traffic for nearly 2 hours monday. the state fire marshall's office bomb technicians were successful in rendering the device safe around 5:30 p.m. david and jennifer kelso were transported to the jasper county jail. charges are pending. elizabeth: if you do business with the city of des moines, get ready for some big changes. a $5 million renovation will close city hall this spring and now the city revealed where you can find the new temporary city hall. todd magel reports. todd: after more than a century, the city's crown jewel on the des moines river is ready for an update. and that means for the first time since the floods of 1993, it's shutting down until somet
