. ♪ taylor: it is opening statements time for theranos founder elizabeth holmes. today in san jose, california. bloomberg's ed ludlow is outside the courthouse. set the scene for us. what are we expecting today? what is the issue that is at stake? ed: this is day one of jury trial. holmes faces 12 comes of wire fraud. what the prosecution boils down to is two schemes, one to defraud investors, one allegedly defrauding doctors and patients which used the theranos service. her team has signaled that she could not have tried to mislead investors because of the state of her mental health due to an abusive relationship with her one time or amended partner, and at the time, theranos ceo and president. it is really interesting to see which direction she goes. she could pursue the old adage, they get until you make it, his -- make it, i classic slogan of silicon valley, where they could argue that she sincerely believed and was optimistic to the degree that the theranos edison system, the little box that was designed, but never capable of fully testing blood, did work. it
