elizabeth warren. let me back up. scott brown in the special election beat a poor democratic candidate. somebody who wasn't good statewide. someone phoning it in. did not do all she could have. elizabeth warren is not that candidate. she has proven a great fund-raiser. she is fired up with the liberal base around the rest of the country. elizabeth warren is helping other democrats raise money. she raised $5.7 million in the last quarter, which is more than just about every republican presidential candidate, except ron paul and mitt romney. that tells you how big a deal she is and how tough a time scott brown will have securing a full term. >> let's head out west. two other races. nevada. >> nevada is a great contrast between two candidates who could not possibly be more different. you have dean heller. he is from the carson city area. he is a cowboy. he likes to go on vacations in the sierra nevada mountains. the democratic candidate is shirley berkeley. she is from los angeles. her dad was the maitre 'd at the sands.

he sounds like elizabeth warren. >> yes, newt does sound like elizabeth warren, up to a point.ore to say in this area and has many more substantiative policy ideas about how to regulate harmful business practices. but rush is right. there is the faint echo of elizabeth warren in what newt gingrich is saying and it's being heard by people who would never hear and consider those words if they were spoken by elizabeth warren. mitt romney and rush limbaugh are, of course, lying when they pretend to be in favor of any legal capitalistic undertaking. they are lying when they say they believe in free enterprise and that any money made in any legal enterprise has the same moral value. mitt romney and rush limbaugh do not believe that the earned income, including tips of the strippers at skin tampa, who will be entertaining republican convention delegates this summer, is the moral equivalent of the earned income of the nurses at st. joseph's children's hospital of tampa. republicans are hearing things from newt gingrich that they have never heard from a republican before. they are heari

i want to listen to what elizabeth warren said about how the president achieved this. >> i want to be clear, if we didn't have barack obama in that building behind me, we wouldn't have this agency. he fought for it. there were a lot of grand bargains offered. if only you'll rip off one of its arms, make it weak and shackle it, we'll be glad to let you have something. you know what he said every time? no. >> she is right about the powers that have been preserved as you read the powers that you now have having been sworn in. your position seems very powerful. you're able to create rules of the road for financial institutions. in effect, what is the effective difference between your powers and congress' power to legislate? >> well, i think like every independent agency, congress has delegated us authority to make some rules that fill in the gap in legislation. but frankly when i was attorney general of ohio and i was trying to help people with their consumer problems, seniors who were being scammed and defrauded of their life savings, people losing their homes to foreclosures, people who
