i was reminded by ellen chesler, biographer of margaret sanger, that president lyndon johnson even as he signs the first federal and international family planning acts into law refused to bestow the medal of freedom on sanger, he feared reprisal from the catholic church. ellen told me that when she looked at sanger's private history papers at smith college, i'm proud to say the biggest archive of women's history, she found a poignant little handwritten note from sanger asking that her body be buried here next to her husband but that her heart be removed to japan, the only country in the world that had ever bestowed a public honor on her. so i hope this is retroactive in honoring the work of margaret sanger. i hope she would celebrate this recognition that reproductive freedom is a human right at least as crucial as freedom of speech. and that no government should dictate whether or when we have children. ellen teller, this immediate action, cutting back assistance, allowing what was considered a temporary increase to lapse, you don't think this is a good idea? >> no, i don't. initially when congress was drafting the recovery act they put in place this boost in snap or food stamp allotments and it was never intended to affect a family by seeing a reduction from one month to the next but because of congressional interference today we are seeing a cliff so a family going in for grocery store today will see every snap household will see a reduction in their monthly benefits lower than what they received last month. >> brown: mr. reck snore. >> well, this increase was intended to be temporary as part of the stimulus package. no one that i'm aware of ever advocated it being permanent and i don't even think the obama administration is seeking to make it permanent. but also i think it's very important that you can't talk about the safety net one program in isolation. we have over 80 different programs providing cash food housing and medical care to poor people. doesn't include social security

my second grade teacher going i mean you know it's like all of this stuff ellen what what do you see is the most useful therapeutic. but i think that being a linear thinker is probably overrated and you know so i think that the idea of these medications helping you be more normal is not necessarily the goal i mean i don't have to tell you that there's you know we need hunters in the world this much is we need farmers in the world so. it's more about reframing the way you see yourself i mean people see themselves with a lot of shame and say make me normal and that's not at all the goal the goal is like this is the way you do it and this is not the way other people do it but is that ok is that acceptable it is acceptable the only thing that really works is what works for you. and the more that people can embrace that and sort of just celebrate that their brains are different the more you know there will. to you know just go with the idea that non-linear thinker you know come up with like the coolest ideas because you know they put together associations that linear thinkers don't always
