karen parks live in ellicott city. karen, how much salt is actually left? we have had enough this year. >> well, jeff, you know what, we don't have enough to do the job. not right now. not today. the state is running out. and here is the problem. you see mounds of snow like this. where are they going to move it and how do they keep the streets clean? what is happening now is after last weekend's big snow storm. the state is running out of salt. the state started with 350,000 tons of salt and now workers have less than half of that to work with. officials say they have started to pull salt from areas that don't need it. like eastern shore. but that will not be enough to solve the problem.

watch ellicott city. it makes the pavement wet. then the changeover.drop below freezing and you have good sticking going on. that's exactly what all of baltimore is facing now. over 12 inches we think that's a safe bet. possibly as much as 20 or more. that would make it the first time on record we have had two one foot-plus storms in a single winter and separately the first time ever of two 20- inch plus storms. take a look at the size of this thing. there are two areas of low pressure involved. the worse is still very much yet to come with this storm. totals we think 16 to 26 inches. this is going to be a heavier, denser snow with the possibility of sleet mixing in. certainly a threat of sleet and cold rain toward the eastern shore. lower totals there. highier totals across baltimore and washington. our blizzard warning for much of southern maryland now extending back into washington now. blizzard warning kicking in at 10:00 p.m. eastern shore counties wind criteria is the key. we'll all be getting a tremendous amount of snow. winds highier in souther

candace dold is in ellicott city. and candace, you were pointing out something that i had a problem with. i had to go to four different gas stations before i found one with gas. >> i know. i cannot believe it and i have heard many stories like that. in fact, we're at a gas station at el so ellicott city. it's been slow. there's a 50 that pulled up, and is getting gas. basically we have one person that is here getting gas. we're thinking, what is happening it's not hopping like it was over the weekend because they're out of diesel fuel. that is causing a huge problem for these snowplow drivers. this is really an issue, because i'm telling you this snow is coming down out here. in fact, i have a cup out here. there's a little bit of ice on the bottom. we're going to measure exactly how much snow come down. let's see. so we're at a good 2, almost 2 inches right now. this cup has been out since 4:30. so just over two hours and we have two inches coming down. and the winds are just starting to pick up which is really blowi

this is ellicott city. they just cleared out the park lot at veteran's elementary school. snow comes in. it is really the last hour before sunset. we loose the solar energy and then the snow can do its thing like dropping temperatures. this is mount st. mary's. visibility down to a quarter of a mile. hope you are watching us. i know you are on the job. we have your weather station loaded up. they have reduced their visibility down to half a mile. they are currently sitting at 30 degrees. it is going to be one of those issues where who is what temperature? further north and west colder. fluffier snow this will blow around more. around the bay there will be a tight threshold who will end up with the sleet moving in. places that get rain could be near annapolis and kent island. if that happens they have snow on the ground. you get the rain that causes melting. then you'll wind up with that stuff turning back to snow and refreezing. you have the winter mode up this now. >> you can see sleet back across the delmar peninsula. we know the wind is not going to be an issue the next

look at ellicott city. it starts out as rain. then we quickly get into a much snowier scenario into the afternoon and evening. you can see a thick blanket everywhere now seeing the changeover occur. here's why it was not sticking so well earlier today. we were in the upper 30s. 35 to 37 degrees about the range for highs. but now we haved on the down to the freezing mark. it is going continue to stack up overnight. this thing is one massive storm. just a tremendous amount of moisture coming out of the south in two areas of low pressure that we'll break down in a second. as you head from east to west you can get highier accumulations. high winds mean blizzard-like conditions even in delaware. further west of the chesapeake colder air available that means highier accumulations 16 to 26 inches of a dense heavy snow. tomorrow we'll get the final amount. it will be a lighter form of snow tomorrow with our second punch. out in western maryland 30 inches not out of the question. winter storm warning up for the also down into washington a

we have that west of columbia and that the heaviest is in ellicott city and columbia. and you're getting rocked and eldersberg. i believe it. you have snow coming down now ranging between one to 2 inches per hour and the same story in psychosville and that is moving into the direction of owennings mill and randallstown. still rain in delaware. but we have the issue with the bands of snow. this is so interesting just to watch the deep blue. and as one pocket, we're following trying slide itself towards the east, it will get in the wrap around from the coastal low and it looks like a little upper level, you can call this max and it will spin in the atmosphere and coming back to the west. we're in the thick of it right now and we're going to enhance the little bands of snow. ooze you can see, it's coming in all directions, hard to indicate which individual cell is moving where. but if the pockets happen to sit on top of you and you wind up with 2 inches per hour or more, could you blow out some of the other neighbors and the surrounding towns. the temperature is 30 in eas
