and then there is the incredibly sad story of elli sharabi, 52 years of age.ghters were killed on october 7th. he was taken alongside his brother yossi into gaza. his brother was also killed in captivity. he is also being taken to sheba hospital. what we don't know about elli is whether or not he knew that his wife and children were killed before he was taken captive, and so likely he has now learned of their fate and incredibly likely emotional moment, but bittersweet. i think, for so many israelis, because guys, when they took to the stage after being alongside the islamic militants in central gaza, they had to make speeches and they looked incredibly emaciated. they did not look well. some of the other hostages that have been released have looked like they were in better shape. these three did not. and oftentimes when they're medical, when their health is assessed, they are then it's then decided as to whether or not they're going to be taken to critical care immediately on the other side of the border, or taken to these hospitals they've been assigned to.

how unusual is this, ellie? >> this is a bizarre and extraordinary memo.really never seen anything like it in all my years of being at the justice department. and since then, what the memo says, essentially, this is the bosses at doj ordering the southern district of new york to dismiss their indictment of eric adams. and as you note, kate, the memo itself said, this has nothing to do with the merits of the case, with the quality of the evidence, with anything. eric adams is alleged to have done. instead, they couch it. first of all, in these sort of broad political terms, they say, well, the prior u.s. attorney had bad motives when he indicted eric adams. they argue that it had something to do with trying to influence the election while providing zero support, zero evidence for that. and then the second excuse that doj gives is also the mayor has to do his job as mayor. he has to focus on his job as mayor. he shouldn't be sort of sidetracked with such trifling matters as a federal indictment, but by that logic, no public official should ever be indicted f

ellie, what are you watching for in terms of what the doj looks like under attorney general pam bondi? >> well, the thing that jumped out to me today, caitlin, is essentially pam bondi first act in office is to order an investigation of the january 6th and the classified documents prosecution of donald trump. that is an outrageous thing to do on your first day. if you're trying to restore doj's equilibrium and establish this as a nonpolitical place that is an overtly political quest. and by the way, let me spoil the secret and tell you how it's going to come out someday. six, eight, ten months from now, we're going to get a report, and they're going to say those prosecutions of donald trump were wildly corrupt and political and improper. it won't come out any other way. keep in mind that many of the bosses of doj represented donald trump in those very same criminal cases. look, donald trump won the election. those cases were dismissed. they won. they should leave well alone. and i do not think it's good for morale or for the independence of doj, for pam bondi to come in on day one and
