journalist elliot gotkine joins me with more. good morning, elliot. we're seeing increase in air strikes in northern gaza. what's the latest on that? and what were you learning about the ground incursion that's expected any moment? >> reporter: the idf has sent out an update. in the past day, 320 military targets. it's been targeting tunnels belonging to hamas, and jihad, with militants inside. it's been targeting anti-tank missile cells. 320 targets. that would tally with our reporting. they seem to be the heaviest bombardment going on in the gaza strip, since israel started the air strikes against hamas following the october 7th terrorist attack. from the israeli side. we're hearing from palestinian doctors and hamas military of health, saying 26 people were killed in overnight strikes. no letup in the air strikes. one other line we got from the idf in the last few minutes, it was targeting assets that were in its words, posing a threat to forces in the surrounding area, who are preparing for ground operations. more evidence that israel is preparing

. >>> journalist elliot gotkine is joining me now. we're seeing air strikes in gaza.hat's the latest on that? and what are you learning about the imminent ground incursion? >> reporter: israel said it would be ramping up air strikes against militant targets inside gaza strip. in that, it's been true to its word. in the past day, 320 military targets. they have been struck in the last day. this could be the largest number in one-day period. you say, they've been targeting, tunnels, operational command centers, that contained islamic jihad and hamas. and containing anti-tank missile cells, as well. on top of that, targeting -- hitting targets it says poses a threat to the troops, that are preparing for a ground invasion. we've seen the first clashes inside the gaza strip, since israel started air strikes in the wake of hamas' terrorist attack of october 7th. in that clash, one was killed and three injured, when a missile hit the vehicle they were in. it destroyed a couple of bulldozers and a tank. clashes have begun. it doesn't necessarily signal the starting gun to a f

. >> thanks to elliot gotkine in london. >>> the situation in gaza has become a catastrophe. palestinian officials say more than 4,600 people have been killed in gaza since the war started. among them, more than 1,000 women and nearly 2,000 children. cnn's scott mclean has more on the enclave. a warning that his report contains graphic images. >> reporter: those who arrive at the hospital in central gaza alive are the lucky ones. there were five air strikes near the hospital. this video, shows the smoke from one nearby. some 110 bodies were brought here overnight. and this morning, one medical source tells cnn, the morgue is full. the rest of the bodies are out in sheets in the hot of the day. residents try to find their loved ones. finding them confirms their worst fears. inside the hospital, children including a toddler are among the dead. several of the victims were found with names written in arabic on their legs. a common marking, as parents try to make identification easier if they are their kids are killed. this hospital is located outside of the area of northern gaza,

journalist elliott gotkine joins us live from london. good morning to you, elliot.wo more hostages greed monday. can we expect to see more hostages released while the ground incursion appears to be on hold for now? >> reporter: before the release of these two elderly israeli women, there were 222 people being held by hamas that they abducted on october the 7th. so we would expect and certainly there's a hope that these releases now, these are the third and fourth people to be released by hamas since it took all of those people hostage on october the 7th, there is a hope and expectation that more will be released. and it's really being helped by both the qataris who host some of the political leadership of hamas in doha, and the egyptians and the red cross. in a statement, prime minister benjamin netanyahu pointedly thanking the egyptians and the red cross, but avoiding thanking the qatarris for their association with muhammad ali, although we do know they are involved in getting some of those hostages released. there's no word about more being released or when or wh
