elliot williams from your legal perspective here. i mean, obviously this is like every parent's worst nightmare. >> absolutely i mean, i think i have almost burst into tears looking at my instagram feed because all of the people in my life are posting that text message thread between one of a student at this high school and her mother and the mother says, i'm leaving work right away. >> like where are you and yet there are other parents that are not taking responsibility for their own children, like mr. gray in this case. >> i think the bigger gut punches the daughters, sending a text message. i'm sorry, i wasn't a better daughter to you and i love you thinking that that was the end. it's heart wrenching now in terms of the liability for the parent and what matters here, one word, it comes down to one word and that's negligence. it's was there a duty of care that the parent had that they failed at? right. and i wouldn't even focus that much on whether it's right to buy a gun for a kid or not because you can buy a kit, a gun and put i

. >> i want to bring in cnn legal analyst and former federal prosecutor, elliot williams now to discuss elliot, your reaction to all of that, starting with is it legal is the sheriff within his rights to do that to post the names and videos of these young kids. he is 100% within his rights. it's 100% legal. but just because something is legal doesn't necessarily mean you should do it, boris. now, look, there's certainly a public interests that the sheriff has in preventing school shootings, keeping the community the 60s 6,000 students safe, but anytime you start releasing information, that number one calls into question that presumption of innocence that you talked about. people are presumed innocent if they haven't been convicted of a crime. and then number two, that you're talking about, children who are still developing, but also may not have the mental capacity to know between right and wrong. it just starts getting more complicated i hear the sheriff, i hear him and respect everything he's saying, but it's just complicated. >> what about potential consequences for me? he talked abo

elliot williams, what did you hear from garland there? why did he do this now yeah. >> just help us understand kind of the context because he's a pretty mild-mannered guy is and the now is an important question. they once a year, the attorney general has all the u.s attorneys from around the country in washington and gibbs, us speak to them in some ways. now, this one was a little bit because they invited the whole justice department personnel to tune in and it was partly on account of the attacks against the justice department that have really been chum in the water in the united states for the last 567 years, however much, what was interesting about that clip from the debate, which sort of also turbocharged some of this is that even though fact check checking in debates, a sort of a controversial issue, he was allowed to go on making claims about the justice department having its ends in these state and local cases. that is simply not true. and i think the attorney general felt some need to weigh in here because of the fact that the jus
