let's bring in gloria borger and elliott williams and norm eisen.et's begin with the latest filing from dominion, which you have gone through. what stands out to you? >> well, the most important top line out of this filing is, fox is not attempting to defend the truth of these defamatory statements, in my view, about dominion. they have conceded it, and dominion absolutely hammers them. although summary judgment is very tough for a plaintiff to get the judge to say before the trial, hey, you win on an issue. i think they could get a ruling from the judge. falsity is not an issue in this case. these are lies, and then take it from there. so that stands out. >> elliott, as you know, fox is claiming that dominion's $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit is an unprecedented "assault on the first amendment." what's dominion's defense against that, and is it a strong defense? >> well, you know, wolf, it's important to take a step back and look at how you win a defamation lawsuit. the plaintiff, that's dominion here, has to establish that a statement was made or

elliott, i want to start with you. as you just heard evan say, i mean, this report really points to widespread abuses, it touches not just on race, but also on gender, on people with disabilities. these probes have happened before, they happen all over the country in police departments big and small. what stood out to you on this one? >> what stands out to me, abby, is the fact that this is with the consent and agreement of the city of louisville's police department and mayor. oftentimes people think of this relationship between the justice department and these local police departments as hostile or combative and that it's the folks from washington coming and wagging their fingers at a local police department. here everyone worked together. there is a reason why the attorney general gave these remarks in louisville, right, flanked by leadership of the police department and the city there. that's really significant here. it's a call for change both at the federal and local level and it seems that there's broad agreement

elliott, it's no longer theoretical.egislation is now in effect. is it a good case? >> there is a lot going on here, laura. and a couple of things. starting with the fact that it's not just a lawsuit because somebody had an abortion. it's a wrongful death lawsuit. he cites the homicide statute which i think goes beyond, at least the state, which was just about abortion. they're bringing in this notion of homicide or murder or fetal life or whatever it might be which is a broader legal strategy, far beyond this morning case. the other thing is that the attorney bringing the case is the former state, i believe, solicitor general who helped craft the legal strategy behind it. this is not about two parties or three parties in texas. this is a nationwide issue. and they're trying to bring it beyond, i think, just go beyond texas. >> well, -- , what sort of the canary in the cold mind. because when we saw that the supreme court was not going to get involved in espy, which was really vigilantism, that's the piece that it adds.
