ellison barber has an update from there. how is he doing? >> as you said, good morning to you. he is doing a lot better than he was a few days ago but he is still in serious condition. on wednesday when scalise came to this hospital he was reportedly in shock. doctors say he was immediately taken into surgery. he had multiple surgeries since then including one on saturday. after that surgery the hospital said the louisiana congressman continues to show signs of improvement. he is more responsive and is speaking with his loved ones. scalise suffered one gunshot wound to the left hip and shot with a rifle. doctors call it a trans pelvic wound. the bullet traveled across his pelvis fracturing bones and injuring internal organs. he lost a lot of blood and is not out of the woods just yet. >> initial period is about hemorrhage control. i feel like we've made a lot of progress about that and hopefully that is not going to be our biggest enemy any longer. other things to worry about include infections and other complications that come about from intensive care. >> one thing that seems

pete: ellison barber with the latest. reporter: good morning to you all.. they recovered several bodies inside the part on train compartments of the uss fitzgerald. the cargo ship collided with the guided missile destroyer about 56 article miles off the coast of japan, hitting a damaging the starboard right at the fitzgerald. according to maritime tracking software from the cargo ship was heading and turned around for some unknown reason before colliding with the destroyer. for those of us on the east coast in the u.s., this happened friday evening. saturday, june 17th, 2:30 a.m. local time. many sailors were sleeping. the crash injured five including the ship's commander. commanding officer was an estate room at the time of this collision. that suffered significant damage. >> a tough day for a navy family. hard to imagine that they had to overcome. i'm proud of their dedication. >> to the flood were birthing spaces where sailors typically speed. they tell fox news all seven sailors were found in the flooded birthing compartment. happy, todd, p. abby: elli

let's bring in fox news correspondent, addison barber who is in cincinnati with the latest. ellison>> the doctors treating otto warmbier say he's in a state of unresponsive wakefulness. they say he has severe loss of brain tissue and has not spoken. >> he has spontaneous eye openings and blinkings. however, he shows no signs of understanding language. responding to verbal commands or awareness of his surroundings. >> the doctors say that these injuries are normally associated with cardio pulmonary arrest. they say right now there's no way to know what led to otto being in this state. warmbier's family says they found out a week ago their son fell into a coma shortly after his trial in march of 2016. doctors could not speculate on what happened before he arrived in the u.s. on tuesday night. they do not know how otto warmbier ended up like this. all they have from north korea are two mris. they say that i'm came on a disc with him on the plane. they're dated april 2016 and july 2015. doctors again would not comment on a lot about how he got to this state. they also would not comment
