southbound 101 at embarcadero road.s where we have the two left lanes closed due to that serious crash that we had overnight, the dump truck with the bed lifted, most likely the driver had no idea that was up, hit that overpass and they are waiting for that structural engineer to arrive and tell them that all is safe. there's a 27-foot crack in that overpass, though, so obviously they have to wait until they get the go-ahead. we've got about a two-mile backup on the southbound side a little bit of a backup on the northbound side and i should say that off ramp from northbound 101 to embarcadero road is closed since that overpass is closed. taking you over to san jose here. southbound 101 just before tully road, getting reports of a new rollover crash. it sounds like that's blocking the left lane so that's the southbound side. we do have our typical delay there on the northbound side and as mike has been mentioning this morning, really pretty sunrise shot. the traffic not so pretty here through the bay bridge toll plaza.

embarcadero a high of 58 is expected for today. and in the north bay point reyes high of 57, novato 62, napa area expecting a high of about 65. let's go ahead and talk about this time line, though. today will be a dry end to the workweek. go outside and enjoy the dry conditions because overnight into saturday morning you're going to start noticing some deep cloud cover. and then in the north bay they are expecting to see the rain first as early as about 4:00 a.m. if we fast forward through the breakfast hour at 8:30, they are going to start seeing periods of moderate heavy downpours as well. another thing expected to i can p up is also the wind. especially along the mountain areas. we could see some gusting up to 45 plus miles per hour as well. so, that's definitely going to be something to look out for. if we fast forward through 8:00 around dinner time, 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00, this pushes south, san jose, campbell will be seeing moderate downpours as well. if you had plans to be outside in the evening hours, don't get caught off gua

southbound 101 at embarcadero road, this is a dump truck.hit the overpass and caused major damage to the truck of course and also a chunk of the overpass is falling now so this could cause a lot of problems in the future here. so crews are on scene closing down the two left lanes and also the northbound 101 off- ramp. we have just started seeing some slowdowns in the area. as you can see traffic moving at about 50 miles per hour. and also there's about a mile backup out there so if you want to avoid this road just in case the backup gets worse consider southbound 280 or southbound el camino real, but there are traffic lights there and might slow you down. to the south bay that's the peninsula, to the south bay commute, green all the way through. so you're looking good on 101, 280 and 87. moving over now to the altamont pass, slow traffic. 19 miles per hour once you hit north flynn road. so that's slow. you want to give yourself extra time to get through that. time to get through the metering lights at the bay bridge toll plaza. the maze to d

this is southbound 101 at embarcadero road and may not look like too much right now, but we had a huge mess overnight. a dump truck with the bed raised hit that overpass at full speed, clearly that driver was not aware that they had the bed up and it clipped it. you can see that damage to the overpass right now. so here's a look at caltrans workers. they've cleaned up most of the mess so obviously we've got the truck remove there had and they're waiting for the structural engineer to come all the way from sacramento to check that out so this is going to be a long-term situation. right now, though, as you can see, those two right lanes are open. i want to talk about a major b.a.r.t. delay here. trains stuck at hayward station so the problem starting at fremont in that richmond direction and this is due to a switching problem so if you can get a little bit closer to san leandro, you'll still be able to move in the richmond direction but anything south of hayward, you're not moving right now. so hopefully i'll have an update in a few. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. sounds l

the latest is that black tarp that was installed by caltrans over the embarcadero road overcrossing.ight now, one southbound lane remains blocked. all the lanes were supposed to be open by 3 p.m. today to ease the evening commute. but that didn't happen. now, over the last couple of hours, caltrans cleared away all the loose debris from the cracked section and then installed that plastic tarp just to be sure that if anything may become loose it doesn't fall on the cars below. caltrans engineer has been inspecting the bridge but it took hours for that engineer to arrive from sacramento adding to the delays. for 101 drivers, it's been a day of long traffic jams. >> earlier today we had to shut down two lanes. as it progressed, when we got an engineer out here, we were able to open up one more lane. and as of right now, it's looking like we'll have one lane closed until we get further notification from caltrans. >> reporter: all this got started about 11:00 last night. that's when a dump truck from a nearby construction site drove down the freeway with a dumping bed still in the upright
