the embarcadero? we notified a broad swath of residents and businesses along adjacent to the northeast waterfront and had a strong response both in in terms of the turn out as well as participation in the on-line survey. but outreach efforts certainly went kwlond just a handful of public meetings. we also spoke and met with a large number and wide variety of organizations and groups and stakeholders, many more than once. while we must continue and expand our engagement efforts as the project moves forward, we can say with confidence that many of the people that depend on the embarcadero have heard of the embarcadero enhancement project, and have had a fair chance to weigh in. this includes stakeholders in the fisherman's wharf and pier 39 area, troy and several others up there who had told us early on and told us repeatedly that their needs are slightly different than the rest of the corridor which is partly based on the design of the embarcadero in this area, and that a more focused traffic study and

pier 3032 is one of the few piers that is not within the embarcadero historic district. as this slide shows, it lost all of its historic shed, and so the rules and conditions under which can can be improved really do not follow the same set of conventions that are set forth in the working group's recommendations for the embarcadero historic district piers. and so we walked through, in quite a bit of detail, what are some of the opportunities and the challenges for pier 3032. i think people recognize, as the port staff has expressed to them, that there are important uses as represented by the mass and ship in this image about its deep water berth and its maritime berthing and operational value, the revenue value of the use of the parking lot now is an important financial resource for the port. but there is a recognition that it is a doeteroirating facilit. our experience with development projects to date, structural condition surveys that have been done have shown that in fact it's deteriorating condition as a very costly facility, and the efforts and the finances require

on embarcadero, as you know, a petty cab driver was hit and killed. now this is both a criminal and tragic act. the embarcadero is on the high injury network, as one of the city's most prominent seats of a high-injury network. the sfmta has been working with stake holders in a public process to develop the project that is about making multimodal improvements and making it safe for all users. we have gained consensus with key stake holders and tenants at the port. through that process, we've identified a two-way, protected bikeway as the preferred option for the street. and we're preparing for a 2018 public open house to announce the details and to kick off the environmental review process, which is the critical next step to get the enhancement. now while we advance the embarcadero enhancement, we've done some short-term things. if you have been out there, you saw the extension of the bike lane, introduction of signal and box at embarcadero and north point, as well as traffic signal to make the street operate safer for everyone. we're also investigatin
