the driver didn't stop and took off toward the embarcadero. he got stuck in traffic and officers detained and arrested him at embarcadero and green streets. >> our officers did a tremendous job and took him into custody, assistant chief lazar says. >> officers decided to pursue the suspect today because the driver was involved in a hit and run incident that creates that felony hit and run gives us the authority to pursue. >> of course, we have to weigh out the risk of harm to others. >> voters pass measure e in march, offering officers more latitude when it comes to car chases. chief lazer says that measure has not taken effect yet. supervisor aaron peskin weighed in. >> frankly, policing should be left to the police and their oversight body, but let's be clear this is a very dense, congested city, and whether it's police officers or individuals driving at high speeds, it's very, very dangerous and has to be done very, very carefully. >> police say it's a good thing the driver was stopped and arrested and that more people weren't hurt. in san

. >> a wild chase and two hit and runs ended with a collision here at embarcadero and green street in san francisco. but police say the story started here at the intersection of jones and market. at around 7:50 a.m. police say a driver in a white mustang was spinning donuts in this intersection and collided with a worker from urban alchemy, then sped away. police responded to the area and say the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. investigators also say that a witness was able to provide detailed information about the white mustang, including a license plate number. >> later on, at approximately 920, officers observed the suspect vehicle continuing continuing to drive recklessly and committing multiple vehicle violations. >> police say those officers tried to pull over the mustang, but instead of stopping, the driver sped off with officers in pursuit. that pursuit led to francisco middle school, where the driver of the mustang hit a 14 year old girl crossing in the crosswalk. the pursuing officers stopped to help that girl. she too, was taken to the h
