the building is in emeryville.is looking much better from our vantage point because look at the pictures of earlier at what firefighters were up against. this fire started at 2:45. it started in an apartment complex that is under construction. so no one living inside. there are some adjacent town homes that you have probably seen burning when you look at the images of sky 7. that's what i was just asking about. what else is burning. and they said those are some town homes that are attached to this project. the firefighters at this point tell me they aren't sure whether they're occupied. they say it's huge. a six-alarm fire. difficult for them to have all the information at the fingertips at this time but they're doing their best. not only are they struggling with the size of this and trying to get it out but water also an issue. listen to the chief briefing us just moments ago. >> so initially as we start pulling more water from the system, east bay mud needed to raise the water pressure in the system and right now

we have a fire burning in emeryville, five alarms.nne makovec will have more information from the scene. it is causing closures and slower speeds westbound 580 because it is visible from the freeway. right now the bay bridge is still moving. traffic isn't doing too badly as you work through there. it's 5:17. metering lights go on around 5:30 typically so let's check conditions east of there. if you are heading towards the bay bridge heads up there are some closures now in place. that may affect your access to 580. westbound macarthur boulevard on-ramp to westbound 580 is closed due to the fire. macarthur is closed west of market and san pablo avenue north of west macarthur also completely shut down. so speeds start to slow down through the area. spectator slowing as you work your way through there. so keep that in mind. the rest of the bay area quiet. no major accidents or problems right now. here's a live look at 880 past the coliseum and traffic is moving well. northbound 238 to the maze, 16 minutes. i know no southbound side delays
