nbc bay area )s sergio quintana continues our coverage from emeryville. sergio... you spoke with air quality officials about the conditions that spurred this weekend )s spare the air alert. firefighters spent the day checking for hot spots in martinez after last night )s dramatic brush fire. it broke out off highway four, near alhambra road. the flames burned about 30 acres of hillside. at one point some homes were threatened. the fire burned in the hills near the iconic "john muir house." crews were able to stop the flames before it reached any buildings or homes. investigators believe sparks from a vehicle started the fire. the hot dry conditions are not done yet. you can track the weather, with our nbc bay area app. get updates on the forecast for your neighborhood. s-f-pd is searching for a hit and run driver. police say a man was hit by a car just after three this morning on the 300 block of jones street in the tenderloin neighborhood. the victim was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. police describe the vehicle as an orange or metallic red car. it wa

these are the skies in san jose, fremont, emeryville, dublin.verybody is getting a little taste of that smoke. kari is back with us in a few moments on when we can expect the smoke to clear out. >> also, the red flag conditions continue to cause problems for firefighters across the state battling more than a dozen wildfires. these three are the biggest ones. here's the latest in those. thousands of firefighters are still battling the mendocino complex fire burning in lake and mendocino counties. as of last night, the fire burned 302,000 acres and is now bigger than los angeles. it is also 47% contained. and the number of homes destroyed is now 119. now, to new video from southern california where conditions worsened yesterday for firefighters battling the holy fire. the u.s. forest service says this fire now destroyed at least 12 structures and burned 4100 acres. it is only 5% contained. that hasn't changed in days. and the carr wildfire remains under 50% contained. new reports of homes destroyed at this point but there are already 1,000 homes g

fog and haze from emeryville. spare the air alert tomorrow. temperatures trending downward this week, below average, and for the rest of the week, should be near seasonal averages. hour by hour shows that as the fog continues to push across the bay tomorrow morning, that will allow for a slower burnoff. you can see the fog is filtering into the san pablo bay, the east bay. as it does burn back we'll get a cooler afternoon, and a more generous sea breeze. but still, some haze in the atmosphere. temperatures in the 50s to start out. 59 in san jose. 60 in lakeport. and if you're spending time in our north bay tomorrow it's going to be cool, some kids going back to school to start out in the 50s and 60s. but by the afternoon, upper 70s, a little hazy out there, and we'll continue that cooling trend throughout much of the workweek. but if you're keeping your eye on hurricane lane, it is still a category three. this will continue to slide to the west at about 14 miles an hour. and the southeast bay -- beaches in the big island, pretty big waves, wea

clouds fill in, drizzle in the morning in the peninsula, but for now, sunny skies in the east bay, emeryville degrees, and walnut creek, you see mt. diablo with the smoke clearing out of the east bay, 78 there, and san jose, similar weather with the numbers in the 70s, clear skies as the temperatures are running slightly below average for some of the valleys. look at santa rosa, 68 degrees, 70s in napa, and 83 in livermore, and the trend of cooler than average inland valley temperatures as seen, that will continue as least through wednesday, and here's the nice side effect of the strong onshore breeze right now. we are seeing better air quality. we did have a smoke advisory for the north bay today. notice the air quality transition tomorrow, more areas into the good air quality, so that is good news, other than the north bay you could see smoke around sonoma county. if it's not smoke, it's low clouds, smoke, and drizzle. take i-80, you'll find the fog following you all the way into sacramento tomorrow morning so that's a good strong push of marine air that might have a little drizzle at times
