charleston, south carolina continue to heal days after a gunman killed nine people at the emmanuel a.m.e. church. fox news correspondent kelley wright has a look at how people are coming together as a sign of support. >> reporter: charlotteston's emmanuel a.m.e. church is reopening its doors, as the world continues to mourn the lives of nine people killed there. the church holding sunday services for the first time since a gunman opened fire during a bible study. >> it is about being able to love one another. >> reporter: in an emotional sermon the reverend norville goff preached a message of love, recovery and healing. he vowed the community will work tirelessly. >> we are going to pursue justice and be vigilant, and we are going to hold our elected officials and others accountable to do the right thing. >> reporter: hours later, thousands of people could be seen marching across charleston's main bridge in a show of unity. >> i am so proud to be among the people who are unifying and showing the world how to do things. >> reporter: people taking part in the march say they want to let everyone kn

. >> the gunman went to the emmanuel a.m.e. church and sat among the worshippers during a wednesday night bible study. after an hour he opened fire on the gathering, the charleston coroner's office released the names of the nine victims, among the dead was the church's pastor. he was also a south carolina state senator and a rising star in south carolina politics a real community leader. he knew president obama -- knew people at the bible study. she spoke to reporters and described the scene the suspect came to the church and asked for the pastor they showed him where the pastor was, he said next to my cousin for the -- throughout the entire bible study. at the conclusion of the bible study, they started hearing loud noises ringing out. and he had already wounded the suspect, had already wounded a couple individuals, including mys could enmy cousin. i spoke with one of the survivors, and she said that he had reloaded five different times. her son was trying to talk him out of doing the act of killing people. he said i have to do it yo

today, one of the murdered, clementa pinckney, pastor of emmanuel a.m.e. church, was carried to the state house in columbia. he was met by his family and governor nikki haley. pinckney's widow and one of their daughters hid from the gunman and survived. pinckney was also a state senator, and he was remembered by senate colleague vincent sheheen. >> one of the things that's missing now that senator pinckney is gone is the peacemaker the guy who was always calm, who would remind us of the better angels of ourselves. clem was that senator. that's a big hole in the state senate, but in a way he's doing that right now. >> pelley: pinckney's desk was draped in black topped with a white rose. thousand waited for hours to pay their respects. fridays at the funeral, president obama will deliver the eulogy. the attack came during a bible study one week ago and this evening, the faithful are gathering again at emmanuel a.m.e. church. michelle miller is there. >> we are still saddened by the loz. we still try cry. we still grieve. we still have broken hearts. but we serve a

last night hundreds of people marched through downtown charleston to emmanuel a.m.e. church where suspect dylann roof opened fire during an evening bible study. this morning we know the fbi is investigating a website registered under roof's name. it features a manifesto-type posting where the writer lashes out at african-americans, hispanics asians and jews. there's also photos of roof holding a gun, burning an american flag and standing in front of a confederate history library. the church's pastor and state senator, clemena pinckney will be laid to rest this week. public viewings are set for wednesday and thursday. funeral services are scheduled for friday. >>> the philadelphia church with ties to emmanuel ame will also reopen today for sunday services. black bunting hangs inside mother bethel ame church in society hill in remembrance of the nine victims. church leaders have told us they have taken steps to make sure all worshipers will be safe today. some houses of worship in our area are planning fund-raisers for the church in charleston. for a full list visit nbc10.com.
