enda: most definitely. australia's biggest trading partner and australia has trying to balance the lines with the u.s. and china story, but they definitely are parting ways of sorts. there is no doubt that it is a provocative move in china's audience from australia. they will quickly accuse australia of interfering in their own business. as i mentioned earlier, scott morrison, the australian prime minister, made clear they are not just trying to take people from hong kong but do business in hong kong. hong kong status as a key gateway for china. it is not just china and australia. we are seeing tensions with china and india, china and u.k., all on an economic metric, but in the end, it spans 60 -- it is 60ning 60 yard -- banning odd chinese apps. it is moving at an unpredictable speed. lisa: there is this tension of power and who has it. hong kong once was a big proportion of china -- mainland china's economy, not as much anymore, which raises a question of what kind of power australia and the united states

enda: i think there has been a change of sentiment for sure. we had a survey recently from the american chamber which made it clear that their members are quite concerned about developments here in hong kong, and of course we know that some of the big tank here -- some of the big banks here made their money in hsbc and standard chartered, they were forced to laws inthe new security hong kong. there has been a dampening sentiment on business here, and at the same time, china is doubling down on hong kong as a financial marketplace. we are seeing some big chinese companies listing on the exchange here with stronger flows of money from the mainland. while sentiment has shifted, the position of hong kong as a position of capital has not changed. tom: that is really one -- that is really where i wanted to go. are you seeing and influence chinese into hong kong where rents or vacancies have the the not moved? enda: that is a difficult one with the travel restrictions in china. some passes for business people moving back and forth. more broadly, real

that was enda curran.has been talking to bloomberg about the recovery from coronavirus. his concern about a second wave, and the lessons we have learned from the crisis. paul: we are in big trouble. about a month and a half ago, i was laying out the bad scenario. it was fairly clear we were going to have a couple good months of recovery, because there was lots of pent-up demand for stuff people weren't allowed to do. that scenario -- the bad scenario was that we would have a spike in covid-19 cases that would lead us to have to stall and backtrack, and that is happening. so we are going to get a jobs report thursday, tomorrow, which is going to be, it's going to look good but it is going to be in the rearview mirror. it is going to -- it is clear that the high-frequency data and everything we are seeing says we hit a wall because of the spike in cases in the sunbelt. >> let's stipulate for a second that in order to get a durable recovery, we need to get the virus under control or at some point hopefully, a
