supervisor joel engardio could not be with us today he is at the board. but he has been in complete support of the investments that we have made in order to ensure public safety not just in where everyone is focused the center of town. the tenderloin, south of market and down town areas of our city. but to make surety people in the west sunny valley the people in the west side their voices are heard, too much we know that there are challenges here with car break in's. home invasions, businesses this have been upon vandalized and the chief will may be talk about a crime that occurred on robbery on 20th avenue and know arrest was just made today to deal with that. so it is so important that we continue to make investment in our police department and in our alternatives to policing including our ambassadors a part of the amazing communities. people who speak cantnies like our residents here to ensure tha there are eyes and ears to respond to the challenges that exist in san francisco. we know that public safety now in the city is when everyone is talking b.

a we have bell here from supervisor engardio's office to present. >> thank you. good afternoon chair melgar and vice chair preston and president supervisor peskin. today a further amendment to the small business fee waiver legislation you heard and that has been enact in the law. small business month takes place each year in may as part of an among long benefit the city waves plan check and inspection fees for small businesses to make store front modifications. the supervisor engardio's earlier ordinance waived fees for new awning installation for may of this year and may of 2024. and the ordinance before you today would further expand the fee waivers to business signs. just like the previous ordinance this fee waiver limited to may of 23 and may of 24. the fiscal impact of the fee waiver based on the department of building inspection projected to be less than 20 thousand dollars each year. we believe that the fiscal impact on dbi the message of support this sendses to our small business community would being significant and supervisor engardio hopes to make thes

legislation was introduced by melgar and cosponsored by supervisors stefani, mandelman, ronen and engardio. of course, on july 27 the budget was signd that includes 2 years of funding for position in support of the permit n. august we have been in discussions with our city attorney and supervisors office. society next steps are we need to development internal regulations to support the issuance of the permits and working on a communication and out reach campaign. there will be substitutions in the legislation. as we worked through the details of the regulations. we participate in late september. supervisor melgar will introduce that legislation and again we anticipate a number of cosponsors and then in october the legislation will be heard at the board of supervisors land use committee. and we would then expect to roll it outasm the permit is finalize and go with our having hired the staff. so they am be t will be have regulations ready to go and the staffing in place by time the permit is official low legislated. all right. i have already addressed the third street bridge. i will move on
